Ireland

I may be heading to Ireland for 10 months for work and have found conflicting answers on the website as to whether I can use my unlimited data there or not? I have a unlimited call, text and data SIM.

Thanks

I can’t see anything in writing regarding any time limits for Ireland (and IMHO some links need to be either removed or modified), but a staff member (or anyone more knowledgeable than me) should hopefully give you that answer in the next day or so.

If nobody does, in say 3 days post back (as that’ll kick me in the shin) and the only other thing is to try their live chat - I’ll post the link then if needs be.

Hi there @MountainAsh

I too can see why it’s confusing because depending on where you look:

Our Roaming fair usage policy is in place to prevent our free Roaming feature from being misused. Customers who joined iD on or after 21st June 2023 can use up to 30GB data from their plan while Roaming (each month) in our 50 destinations at no extra cost.

And here that says

From 1 October 2024 and until further notice, all customers can use their full UK data allowance in Roam Free destinations*, at no extra cost! We’ll notify you when the promotion ends and when the 30GB Roaming data limit is reinstated. Have a great trip!

But then you can read this

Our fair usage policy applies to all Roam Free destinations, excluding Ireland.

However, it does then say this

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/international-and-roaming-charges#faq-item-4

Does the 30GB fair usage limit apply to Ireland?

No. You can use your texts, calls, and data in Ireland just as you would in the UK.

So with that all said, you can use your full allowances whilst over there each month.

The only thing I’m not sure on is if the 63 days limit over 4 months applies to Ireland if your account address is registered in England, Scotland or Wales. But someone should clarify this soon enough.

@Kash

Does the 63 days roaming use over a 4 month period apply to Ireland?

TIA

Hey there @Daz_S, as Ireland is a roaming country, and the fair usage policy is used there, the same terms and conditions should apply as far as I’m aware.

Thanks,

Tyler

Thanks for that @Tyler 👍

Although someone <coughs Matt> may want to check what I posted earlier as there appears to be some out of date and/or conflicting information dotted around various iD URLs

Could you possibly give someone a gentle kick as according to what I posted earlier - URL posted this time

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/eu-roaming/fair-usage-policy

Our fair usage policy applies to all Roam Free destinations, 👉excluding Ireland👈

(pointy fingers added as there is no siren emoji)

So iD’s F-UP (meaning fair-usage-policy😶) states Ireland isn’t included.

And still not picking fault (maybe this is why Kash hid under the desk!) but this is on one of the FAQ drop downs titled “Does the 30GB fair usage limit apply to Ireland?”

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/international-and-roaming-charges#faq-item-4

Does the 30GB fair usage limit apply to Ireland?

👉No👈. You can use your texts, calls, and data in Ireland just as you would in the UK.

That’s stating that you can use your texts, calls and data as you would in the UK, thus one my conclude that if it was the same as the UK you can use your full monthly allowance (if greater than 30GB) and based on “as you would in the UK “ then there is no 63 day limit over a 4 month period. Is there anyway you can get this clarified and have the info on the URLs made clearer?

TIA

edit. Not posting this bit to cause any offence or to open a debate, but do iDM class N-I and the R-o-I as all areas of Ireland in relation to roaming?

Thanks Tom 👍

(before my time but I’m aware you had services over there so maybe some of the links are historic?)

Just a an add on to this topic - does anyone know if there is an additional paid bolt on that can be added to allow calls from the UK to Ireland?

Hello @PMD7

Thanks for getting in touch.

Unfortunately, we do not currently offer a bolt on for this sorry.

Information on calling Ireland and the charges can be found here

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Your post wasn’t showing until a little earlier

Current call charges from the UK to Ireland are

Charges when contacting Ireland from the UK.

International Pay Monthly Pay-as-you-go
Calls to mobiles* £0.18 £0.05
Calls to landlines* £0.07 £0.02
Texts** £0.06 £0.06
Picture message (MMS)** £0.30 £0.50

* Price per minute

** Price per message/text

Prices are shown including VAT where applicable.

(note that until iD twig they’ve not updated the PAYG charges (like they increased these for most other countries in line with SIM contracts), it is cheaper to use a PAYG SIM)

Or if the person(s) you’re calling have a mobile consider calling them via an app - like WhatsApp voice calls as this would only use you data and wouldn’t cost you any call minutes.
