Awful reception

Forum|alt.badge.img

I recently switched to ID on a 24 month contract and my phone is pretty much completely useless unless I am connected to WiFi.

I can't get any phone/data signal indoors or outdoors at work, home or pretty much anywhere in the area that I live.

Whilst I know this area (LA23 3AU) isn't the best for mobile signals (we are still a long way off decent 5G) to not be able to get any signal at all just isn't good enough, and the issue goes far beyond my home postcode. I have previously been on EE and GiffGaff with no issues at all and I have tried Vodafone and EE Sim's in my current phone and they work fine so it is definitely an ID (3) signal issue.

The ID coverage checker assures me that 4g is widely available in my area.

I'm not willing to pay for zero signal for another 22 months so where do I stand with leaving my contract?

I understand that I agreed to the contract but I am clearly not recieving the service that I signed up for.

Thanks for your reply Andewhite,

No my signal is pretty bad around my whole local area. My work is 4 miles away and the signal is just as bad, and in a local town I go to regularly, about 8 miles in the opposite direction, it is equally as poor.

With patience I can occasionally send or receive an SMS or WhatsApp message in certain areas but calls are either a non-starter or drop out mid-call.

WiFi calling does work intermittently at work or home but again the calls regularly drop out.

I have tried other network sims in my handset, both locally and abroad with an Esim,  and had no issues with signal so I guess i'm just in a huge blackspot for the 3 network.

Yeah the network capacity issue that you pointed out is obviously not helping. Wish I'd seen that before signing up to 24 months! 🙄

This community article might help with WiFi Calling at home and elsewhere, @Larry75

The WiFi Calling service works well for me, and is something I rely upon living in a mobile not-spot.

Presumably your phone with the iD SIM works in other locations, away from LA23 3AU, @Larry75

Have you tried using the WiFi Calling service at LA23 3AU?

Looks like the network capacity at your location might be an issue.

Hey there @Larry75, sorry to hear that.

What phone do you have please?

Does this affect calls, texts and data?

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi Tyler,

It is a Motorola Edge 50 Pro

Yes it affects calls, texts and data.

Just did a full factory reset which didn't help and the phone work works fine with other network sims so I think I'm just in an area of terrible 3 network coverage. Very frustrating!

Many thanks, that's awesome and works a treat!!! I now have reliable WiFi calling. Now just to solve the issue using my phone outside 🤣

Hey there @Larry75, thank you for that.

So to confirm, Wi-Fi calling has helped when at home, but you still have issues outside of home?

Thanks,

Tyler
