Missed call alert not working

I have “missed call alert” set on on my voicemail settings.

The way this is supposed to work is that if someone rings me when I am out of range (or in airplane mode) I should receive a text message alerting me when I am next in range.

This used to work but in recent weeks it has stopped working - I don’t receive any text message.

Have you tried disabling voicemail and re-enabling it?

It may also be worth checking your handset voicemail settings.

I have tried switching voicemail off and switching it on again but it is still not working.

I have checked the handset voicemail settings and they are correct.

The caller hears the voicemail announcement so it is getting that far, but no text alert is sent

Yes it worked previously

I don’t know how long it has not been working. If you don’t get the missed call message you do not know that anyone has called you unless they happen to mention it. Most of the time reception is good so normally there is no occasion for the missed call text to be sent.

Last missed call text received was on 15 Dec 2024.

So it stopped working at some point between 15 Dec 2024 and 26 Feb 2025.

I have been trying different options and I believe I have narrowed down the circumstances in which the problem occurs.

The problem occur if:

Extended absence greeting is on
AND
The option of not allowing messages to be left is set
AND
The caller hangs up after the personal recorded message has played and when the "I'm afraid you can't leave a message" system message is playing

All three conditions have to be present for it not to work (e.g. it does work if the caller hangs up while the personal recorded message is playing).

When the support line rang me they were confused about what the problem was. It turned out that the could only read the open message here, not private messages and the fuller description of the problem I put in the private post had not been passed on to them, so I thought I would repost it here.

Just to be absolutely clear this problem is NOT, repeat NOT, repeat NOT a problem with messages being left on voicemail.

The problem is that when the voicemail system is set for the extended absence greeting and is set NOT, repeat NOT, repeat NOT to allow voicemail messages to be left, and the phone is out of range, the missing call SMS message is not sent.

The problem occurs if:

Extended absence greeting is on
AND
The option is set NOT allowing messages to be left
AND
The caller hangs up AFTER the personal recorded extended absence greeting has already played and when the "I'm afraid you can't leave a message" system message is playing

All three conditions have to be present for it not to work (e.g. it does work if the caller hangs up while the personal recorded extended absence is playing).
