my pixel 4a not making calls

I notice others have been told this phone is not compatible but this phone is still on the id approved list. The phone is connected to 4g.

Explain?

Or this could be like the major issue with many ‘unlocked to all networks’ Samsung phones….

In those cases its the service provider software version inhibiting the VoLTE functionality on any other network apart from the original service provider or those MVNO’s that are using that providers infrastructure.

eg. An unlocked EE supplied Samsung phone will not work on iD with VoLTE - this has only been an issue since 3G was turned off across the country. The reason is the EVR software version.

You’ve already proven your phone works on O2, so my theory might be right - IDK

Just to add tesco mobile state pixel 4a is compatible for their 3g switch off. Come on id mobile you can do better than this.

Okay @Sim2, but some of the settings may need to be changed in order to use VoLTE (4G Calling) on the iD network with the Pixel 4a.

Unlike Tesco Mobile, iD Mobile never had a 2G GSM network infrastructure - with Tesco Mobile they’ll still have a 2G network for GSM calls after their 3G switch-off.

Google don't provide a volte function. This just socks. But did id really have to turn off 3g so quickly why not wait until 2030.

Try asking the Google Assistant to turn on the VoLTE option on your Pixel phone, @Sim2.

All the UK mobile networks have decided to shutdown their 3G network infrastructure by end of 2025, with some doing so sooner.

My phone is way more up to date with android 14 with 5 November 23 update.

Can id influence Google to send this update to its UK customers?

The ironic thing is that the pixel 4a is a 5g phone.  Should id actually up up a 5g mast near me … the phone calling will work again. But oh no.

This situation is not pretty.

Probably find there’s a different industry standard for making voice calls using 5G mobile network infrastructure, @Sim2

Did you purchase your Pixel 4a from iD Mobile?

The phone’s approved, so should work with the iD Mobile 4G Calling service (VoLTE) - once the VoLTE option is turned ON.

The Google Assistant on your Pixel device might be able to turn ON VoLTE (voice over LTE).

Bottom line. The pixel phones in usa were fixed up for 4g calling in summer 2022. But it needs the sims to be prepared correctly. Someone at iD has missed a step.

Bottom line this was fixed by google in summer 2022 in usa for pixel phones. But it also needs a setting in the sim.

Either way the sim needs to be prepared for pixel phones to work.

Indeed @Sim2, without a SIM no mobile network services will work.

The Pixel 4a device works with the iD Mobile 4G Calling (VoLTE) network service, when the VoLTE option is turned ON in the Android settings of the phone.

The i.d sim does not enabled the volte settings. Ymmv

Hey there @Sim2, sorry to hear this.

So when you go into settings, you have no options to choose 4G/LTE/VOLTE?

Thanks,

Tyler

Just ask the Google Assistant to turn ON the VoLTE option with your iD SIM, @Sim2

Hi @Sim2 ,

We are sorry that you are still experiencing issues.

Do you have the option to turn on VOLTE or LTE within settings on your phone ?

Thanks Jim
