Question

No signal - can only use phone on wifi

I took out a 24-month contract with ID Mobile via Carphone Warehouse around 12 months ago, which included both a handset and SIM. I’ve recently moved house to a new area, and since moving, I’ve found that the mobile signal at my new address is extremely poor — I have no usable signal indoors, and even outside, it is unreliable. I am now unable to make or receive calls, send texts, or use mobile data unless I am connected to WiFi.

When I check the three coverage checker, it confirms that this level of poor service is standard for my area and not due to any temporary fault or maintenance issue. I understand that signal can vary by location, but I do expect to receive a basic level of service from a mobile network, and in this case, I am receiving none.

I'm not sure what to do. It feels very frustrating having to pay each month when ID Mobile can't provide the service in paying for. Any help on how to resolve this.

When VodaThree allow you to use each others masts in the next few months hopefully you will see an improvement.

I didn't know that was going to be the case. Vodafone signal is brilliant where I am. So I just need to wait a few months. Any idea when that'll likely be? Any idea on what I can do in the meantime?

No dates given yet so can’t be more specific. Unfortunately not a lot you can do apart from utilising WiFi calling or move.

Probably best to resolve this issue by using the iD online Live Chat service, to speak to a customer adviser @Glen10

The advisers work until 8pm on weekdays and 6pm on weekends - just tell the 24/7 chatbot you’d like to “talk to a person”.

Hi @Glen10

We’re sorry to hear this.

Please could you provide your postcode? Have you tried any troubleshooting methods?

Hi Anika,

Our postcode is PE19 1HB. Yes, I've done lots of different troubleshoot things. It's worth Notting that my phone works when I go into Cambridge. It works very well. But in our new house in St Neots it just gives me the exclamation mark!!

Hi @Glen10

I can see on our network coverage checker, the area is very patchy for coverage resulting in more outdoor coverage than indoor coverage.

Yeah. That's what the online checkers all say. I think I'll need to go to there chat to find out if there is anything that can be done. It's frustrating paying for a service that they can't deliver.

Hi @Glen10

We are sorry for this.

You are on the border with indoor/outdoor coverage.

If you reboot your handset do you find the service improving for any period of time?

Hi Natalie, the signal doesn't really improve. I've reset the phones network and the phone and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I think I've just moved to a rubbish patch when it comes to signal.

Perhaps try using the iD WiFi Calling service, while you’re indoors and home, @Glen10

I live in a mobile network not-spot, and WiFi Calling works well for me - no problems with calls and SMS texts using WiFi Calling.

This community article might help.

Next few months? Only if you’re very lucky! It’s going to be implemented over the next eight years for many, lol.
