Recently I was a victim of identity fraud , I opened a ClearScore account 5th may 2025 to find out my estranged mother had opened 5 catalogues and phone contracts out in my name one of these being IDmobile

i immediately contacted all the credit providers to tell them about the situation all accounts apart from id mobile have been successfully shut. This has been ongoing now since may where ID mobile have claimed this civil matter and refused to close the account and informed me that I am liable to pay for the full contract even though the phone has been blocked and the SIM card disconnected don’t know what to do I have contacted the ombudsman and they can’t help me as the phone contract was taken out through Carphone warehouse I have reported it multiple times to the police/action fraud who are good for nothing.
I refuse to pay a contact that I have not taken out and also have not got the phone/contract for it either some advice would be gratefully appreciated.

There’s not much you can do. You mentioned reporting it to the Police or Action Fraud. What did you mean by that? Did you report it to the Police or Action Fraud? Action Fraud rarely investigates reports and simply issues a crime reference, as if it were confetti. They even have a disclaimer on their website:

If the police decide not to investigate your case as a crime, you might still be able to get compensation or money back by a civil case yourself.

I would have reported the crime to my local police station. It might still be worth doing this. If that doesn’t work, you could take your mother to small claims court to recover any financial losses.

Yes I reported to both action fraud and GMP online and received crime reference numbers. I will contact my local police station via phone this morning if I don’t get anywhere I will look into the small claims court thank you

I haven’t had any losses via money as she’s connected everything with her bank email/phone number it’s just my name and previous home address that was used and my credit report that is ruined

The catalogues won’t come with minimum term contracts, which is why you’ve likely found it easy to cancel them. This is especially true if there’s no outstanding amount due because your mother was paying any due amounts.

A phone agreement usually comes with a minimum term, making it harder to resolve disputes. To find out how much money your mother owes you, you should ask iD Mobile how much is due now and how much the early termination fee will be. This is what you need to reclaim from your mother.

In the meantime, wait for a response from an iD Mobile employee here. You never know, you might get lucky and get a helpful one.

Unfortunately everything she opened had an outstanding balance. I had to fight with Vodafone back and forth until they finally agreed with me and closed it down for fraud just waiting for it to be removed from my credit file but since that she’s created a pin so I can’t contact them and has add her address added to my credit report(Vodafone)

ID mobile have referred it to Debt collectors the outstanding balance is £49.99 I think and two missed payments they sent me a deadlock letter too🤷🏻‍♀️

You need to dispute the debt with the debt collection agency and tell them you were a victim of fraud. (Don’t mention your mother.) You should also provide them with your crime reference number. If they try taking you to court for a CCJ, make sure to reply to the court and provide them with the same information. No judge will side with them.
