How do I order a SIM without previous address in the UK

Hi there,

I just tried to order an iD Pay Monthly SIM via idmobile.co.uk, but didn't manage to do so, because I do not have a previous address in the UK and I stayed in my current address less then 3 years. I can provide my previous address in another country, but it looks like there is no option for this (even if I click "Enter address manually" there is no "country" field).

Can I order a SIM online? If not, what are my options?

Many thanks,
Mikalai

Hello @m1kola,

Welcome to the iD Community.

Our PAY-Monthly SIMs require a credit check.

For a credit check, 3 years of address history is required.

There's no way around this sadly.

Our PAYG SIM's don't require a credit check so you can look at ordering one of these?

These SIM's are very flexible and come with no minimum period attached to it.

You can top up and either use credit:
  1. 1p per MB
  2. 2p per text
  3. 3p per minute
OR

Convert the credit into a plan:

With 3 plans available:
  • £5.00 - 100MB Data, 125 Mins, 500 Texts
  • £10.00 - 1GB Data, 500 Mins, Unlimited Texts
  • £15.00 - 4GB Data, 1000 minutes Unlimited Texts

I'm living here in the UK for 6 months and before that I was living in Brazil.
I'm trying to buy a sim only plan and I need to inform 3 years address history, but the web page doesn't accept addresses outside the UK. It keeps asking me a UK postcode.

I think it's a bug on the webpage.

Anybody could help me? Or suggest a mobile company who doesn't have bugs...

Hey @eduardogtc,

Sorry to hear you're having issues with purchasing that you believed is a bug.

I can confirm this isn't a bug with our website.

Our SIM-only plans and handset contracts are subject to a credit check which would require up to 3-years of UK Address history.

This means, if your previous address history is made up of international addresses, we would not be able to proceed with the order.

What you may wish to look at is a PAYG plan and I've gone into this further above.

I hope this answers your query.

Hey @babis,

I've moved your post here as I feel this topic may help provide alternatives and also relates to the same issue.

3 Years of UK address history is required for a credit check.
You may find this to be the norm for other networks too.

Without this, we would not be able to proceed with your order.

You can explore PAYG options as mentioned above.

I’m in the same case as people complaining here, eu citizen, lived and worked in the uk for almost 2 years, have a current monthly plan costing 4 times what I would like to buy at ID with an excellent credit score.

There is no legal justification in requesting such history. Three doest not require it and yet they perform credit checks: https://www.threebroadband.co.uk/company-information/legal-stuff/credit-check-policy

That’s being extra-zealous, discriminatory and border line.
