I’ve found a monthly sim only deal on a price comparison site, that is slightly cheaper with a slightly better allowance than my current plan (also a monthly sim only plan) I looked at available plans to upgrade to in my app/account and that deal is more expensive. Is there anyway I can switch to this better plan directly? Or do I need to get a PAC and transfer as if I were a new customer?

Have you discussed your upgrade options with the iD Telephone Sales team,
Speak to a sales adviser on 020 7139 1397, between 9am - 6pm.
Failing that if you wanted to take the new deal with a new number you would have to double port to another network and back again as you can’t use a PAC to transfer from iD to iD.

No I only found it this afternoon so haven’t had the chance, but that’s annoying, I guess I can get a payg sim for a month if so
