I currently have an 18 month sim only contract which doesn’t run out for another year . Can I upgrade to a contract with phone ?

If you have purchased or upgraded to a SIM Only Deal, you can upgrade to a new Pay Monthly Phone plan after 6 months. To double check when this is, in the iD Mobile app or My Account Online

    You should be able to upgrade 6 months into your SIM only plan to a 24 month device plan, we’d recommend checking the iD Mobile app as ​@MZone suggests above.
