Thanks for your help. I actually got advised to contact TradeUpHelp when I spoke to someone on the live chat app and got this response:
"If you are looking to trade-in your old device after taking up a new contract with ID mobile, we will be happy to wait to trade-in your new device once you have received your new handset."
So I've ordered the upgrade and started the trade-in process.
