Roaming In Zimbabwe Not Working

My husband and I both lived in the UK and purchased roaming contracts specifically to use whilst in Zimbabwe so as not to miss out on work opportunities. Unfortunately we cannot get the roaming to work at all. We have activated roaming on both our mobiles as well as in the app, but nothing. any help would be much appreciated as our businesses rely on this.

Hi @Manz60443,

Welcome to the Community!

It seems that we don’t have a network partner in Zimbabwe which means that we are unable to provide coverage there.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Hi Kash, thank you for your response. I checked with ID customer support before we left and they did confirm there is. I have also used it in Zimbabwe previously.

HI @Manz60443

The team confirmed there is coverage while there? Did they mention what networks?

You’ve used it in Zimbabwe previously, have you changed anything since you used it last time?

Hi there

When I spoke to ID support they mentioned Telone. I don’t know what network we used last time, we just turned our phones’ data roaming on and it worked. Haven’t changed anything since.

Thank you.

Hi there @Manz60443

It looks like iD used to have Zimbabwe as a roaming partner based on this

(copied from the above. The network needed for use over there is/was NetOne)

Zimbabwe NetOne

Also on this link it states this

Zimbabwe, Republic of (Former Southern Rhodesia, Rhodesia)  +263

However on this link it states this

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/international-and-roaming-charges

Roaming charges in Zimbabwe.

The table below displays how much you’ll be charged for any minutes, texts or data that you use.

Roaming Pay monthly Pay-as-you-go****
Calls to UK* Not Available Not Available
Calls to Zimbabwe* Not Available Not Available
Calls received* Not Available Not Available
Texts to Zimbabwe** Not Available Not Available
Texts to UK** Not Available Not Available
Picture message (MMS) sent** Not Available Not Available
Internet and Data (per MB)*** Not Available Not Available

* Price per minute

** Please note: MMS charges vary. For further information, refer to Terms & Conditions. If you joined or upgraded on or before 20th June 2023 the MMS cost is £0.30 per message for Roaming within EU Bands 1 and 2.

*** Data is charged or deducted in one kilobyte (KB) increments and any part KB used will be rounded up to the nearest KB

**** The charges below will apply to all Pay-as-you-go customers starting from 1st October 2024. Find out more about the current charges here.

Prices shown include VAT where applicable.

I have no clue when this was changed, but as you said it has worked previously.

Thank you for your response. Does this picture below change anything? It shows the network options and I am able to select one but don’t get any reception? Does this mean I need to change APN settings? If so, how do I do this on an iPhone?

I would have to say it would have been the 2nd option down - ZW NET*ONE - probably. However it looks like iD Mobile no longer have a roaming agreement with Zimbabwe, hence it now stating not available on their website.

And on that screen, being as you’ve already turned off auto network selection, you would have needed to selected the 2nd network down on that list.

Plus to my knowledge you shouldn’t have had to tweak the APN settings either.

Hi @Manz60443

I’d recommend trying the second option from that screenshot, “ZW NET*ONE”.

When did you last use your plan in Zimbabwe with no issues?

We last used it this time last year. We’re able to select NetOne but just don’t have reception.

iD Mobile (or 3UK being as iD are a MVNO using Three’s infrastructure) must have stopped using NetOne as a roaming partner then. Who chose to stop this is and why is unknown to me - Governments or Businesses perhaps - IDK

Although we can see from the images I’ve posted that its no longer available you could try iD’s Live Chat again to ascertain why they said it would work this time when clearly some areas of their own site says otherwise.
