Sri Lanka

Hi,

I'm heading to Sri Lanka soon and as part of the trip I'm getting a local SIM for the holiday. How can I unlock my phone to use the holiday Sim? TIA

In the UK, mobile networks are no longer allowed to sell phones locked to their network since December 2021, as per Ofcom regulations.

@Jamie Mc  It depends on how old your phone is any how if you've purchased it through IDMobile you'll find your device is unlocked.

A quick way to find out is to remove your current Sim card and put a Sim card from a family member or friend that's on say EE, O2 or Vodafone if you getting services from said Sim card your good to go. Failing this going a mobile phone store and ask a staff member to check for you.

Also you need to activate roaming service in the UK before you leave if you intend to use your IDMobile Sim oversea.

Hi Joe

Phone is from ID and less than 18 months into a new 2 year deal so I'm guessing I'll just be able to pop the Sri Lankan sim in and go? Either way, as you've suggested, I'll try and different network SIM to see if it works first.

Thanks

Jamie

Yes you'll be good to go but no harm trying a local sim card from said network listed. Hope you have a great vacation.

Hey there @Jamie Mc, we’re glad to hear that @JoeKing & @MZone were able to support you.

Using our SIM will incur charges, but of course you’re more than welcome to use a local SIM to avoid these charges if you prefer, and your phone won’t be locked unless it’s an older iPhone model from before 2018.

Thanks,

Tyler
