I had a load of saved voicemails from my nan who passed away on the 15th of October this year I've just gone to listen to them and they have gone , I'm heartbroken they were there everytime I've accessed my voicemail previously I pressed the save button after listening when I've had one from her and they have been there when I've picked up new messages but today all I got was you have 2 new messages no mention of saved messages I so want them back and want to know where they went

So sorry to hear about your loss.

The iD Mobile service piggybacks off the Three mobile network and therefore I assume iD works in the same way. Three updated their voicemail service in the early part of this year, so (again I’m assuming) iD’s did too.

On Three’s new system saved voicemails are retained for 15 days. I personally do not agree with this but understand as a business they are not obliged to keep them indefinitely as they take up storage space on their voicemail servers (a server being like a filing cabinet).

Also on Three there is a storage limit of roughly 130 messages, which is based on roughly 30 seconds per recording. So even if you were not over the 15 days limit any further voicemails would potentially cause the oldest saved messages to be deleted.

Not relevant to your genuine upset at losing the messages, but any messages you haven’t listened to are retained for 22 days, whereby they too are deleted.

Also moving to a new provider will also cause the loss of saved voicemails.

And the following probably isn’t going to help you either as I very much doubt iD can do this, but I’ve only ever known about one case where a customer (NOT with Three/iD) managed to get their provider to go into their back up* server, copy the saved recordings and send them on a CD. This was way before all of these new data protection laws came in but I helped them back then by telling them to submit a written Subject Access Request (SAR). And the data was on their account under their mobile number hence their provider reluctantly doing this.

*the back up server cannot be accessed from our side.

Hey there @Maria Castle, we’re very sorry to hear about your loss.

When you saved the voicemails, were you already with us on iD Mobile? What date did you save it?

Also, I believe that saved voicemails aren’t saved forever I’m afraid, and will be deleted after a period of time, we’re really sorry about that.

Thanks,

Tyler
