I am with ID mobile on a SIM only contract at the moment. However, yesterday evening I purchased a new contract with ID mobile. As I wanted to upgrade my phone I have been told by the unhelpful chatbot that I cannot keep the same phone number and I have to cancel my new contract and go with another company and then come back to ID mobile. As if I'm going to do that. Can anyone help me please. All I'm doing is going from a a SIM only to a contract and both of these are with ID mobile. Why is it so difficult with them

If you wanted to upgrade your plan, you should have done so instead of purchasing a new one. Unfortunately, you cannot port your number internally, as this is not allowed across all networks.

You have two options:

  1. Take advantage of the cooling-off period to cancel your new plan and upgrade your existing one.
  2. Port your old number to another network, and then port it back to your new plan.

Talking to someone won’t get you a third option.

It’s the only way, but it’s a simple process.😄

So I have to cancel my New phone which is with ID mobile and then reorder it. That is absolutely bonkers. Why isn't there anybody you can actually talk to i.e. proper human person

Hey there @Lisa Steer, as confirmed by @WelshPaul & @Geluk, if you wish to keep your number, you’d need to order an upgrade and not a completely new plan I’m afraid.

The only work around as you’ve suggested is a triangle port if you don’t order an upgrade.

Thanks,

Tyler

I had a SIM only and couldn't upgrade until 3 month's time. So, will have to do this ridiculous 'workaround'. Customer service is non-existent. I assume that's why it's a cheaper network - no staff, poor bots and overall, pants.
