Twitter (or should we say, X) vs Threads.Blog
There’s a new kid on the social media block. It looks like Twitter. And it works quite like Twitter too. So, what exactly is Threads and is it about to take the world by storm? Let’s have a quick look… What’s been happening with Twitter/X? I know what you’re thinking - ‘do we really need another social media app?’ Your answer probably depends on how you feel about Twitter. It’s gone through quite a few big changes recently, including an issue with ‘throttling’. This was where you could only view 600 tweets before you’d reached your limit for the day. Then you were stuck refreshing your feed with no new content to show for it. And as you can imagine, that left a lot of people a bit confused and frustrated. And it might go through an even bigger overhaul soon too. After 17 years, Twitter recently announced they’ll be changing their name to X. Yep. Literally just the letter. This rebrand is all part of the plan to turn the platform into the next super-app. What does that actually mean though? Well, not a whole lot – at least for now. No new features have been released just yet. But no doubt they’ll be coming at some point down the line. So, make sure to keep your eyes peeled. Say hello to Threads This is where Mark Zuckerberg comes in. The Facebook founder (technically it’s Meta now) went ahead and launched Threads. It’s a text-based microblog-style app just like Twitter. It has a really ‘early Twitter’ feel to it too. Which has helped it to drum up lots of hype, with huge numbers signing up on the first day alone. And of course, that means some massive new competition. How to get Threads Threads is just like any other app. Whether you’re on iPhone or Android, you just search for it on your app store. Once it’s downloaded, the sign-up process is really easy. If you’re already an Instagram user, it’s as simple as connecting your existing account. And just like that, you’re now on Threads. All your followers and the accounts you follow migrate as well. So, you don’t have to spend any time doing boring social media admin. Nice. Integrating an existing Instagram username is the only way you can sign up though. That means if you don’t have an account, you’ll need to make one to get stuck into Threads. How Threads works Seeing your feed for the first time might result in some serious déjà vu. You can like, repost (not retweet), reply to, or quote a ‘thread’. So basically, all of the things you can do to a tweet. There’s some great news if you’re not a fan of the Twitter character limit. Posts on Threads are capped at 500 characters. That’s nearly double the limit of a tweet. You can also share up to 10 images in a single post, instead of four. Making it way easier to share your albums worth of holiday snaps. The feed isn’t split like it is on Twitter. There’s no ‘following’ and ‘for you’. That means you’ll occasionally see random stuff from accounts you don’t follow. But the feed itself is easy to read. It’s slick and clean, so scrolling through it feels pretty satisfying. You can search for accounts but not specific posts or topics. That also means hashtags aren’t really a thing on Threads. Is it better than X/Twitter? It’s a hard call to make considering both apps are basically the same. A lot of it comes down to your personal experience. With more and more unwanted adverts and tweets appearing on our Twitter feeds lately, it’s refreshing to open an app and be able to clearly see and engage with content you actually want to look at. Have you tried Threads? Which social network do you prefer? Let us know in the comments below.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 – everything you need to know.Blog
Samsung’s new foldable is here! Over the last few years, they’ve been paving the way with their unique flipping and folding phones. They combine the best parts of a phone and a tablet – mashing them together into one super handy hybrid. With the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Samsung have really gone all out. There are loads of snazzy new features including a large cover display and a completely redesigned hinge. Sounds good, right? Let’s take a closer look… Larger cover screen The first thing you’ll notice when you look at the phone is the larger cover screen. The previous versions had a small rectangular outer display. This one, called the Flex Window, fills almost the entire front of the phone when it’s shut. And it doesn’t just look the part. It also means you can do a whole lot more without having to unfold it. Now that’s smart. Obviously, there’s all of the stuff you’d expect to see on there - the usual widgets and notifications for weather, time and what not. But it can also run full apps on there. Yes, really. There’s a curated list of apps you can check out that are all optimised for this screen, including YouTube, WhatsApp, and Spotify. It’s got some fun options for customisation too. You can give it a personal touch by changing the colour scheme, adding a video wallpaper, or swapping out the look of the clock face. Plus, it lets you fill it with your favourite widgets – giving you quick and easy access to your go-to bits and bobs. Overhauled hinge The hinge has also seen some big changes. There’s a clever new water-drop design which means the phone now shuts completely flat. So, there’s no longer a gap between the two halves when it’s folded. It’s a satisfying solid block now, which not only looks better, but also makes it slimmer when folded. It fits neatly in your pocket and should stop dust and muck from getting onto the inner display. It uses less moving parts as well, so technically there are less ways it can go wrong. Samsung say this should help it to last longer, with the phone rated for 200,000 folds. That’s a whole lot of folding. So, you won’t have to worry at all about its durability long-term. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset This is up there as one of the most powerful Android phones you can get at the moment. And that’s all thanks to its internal tune-up with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. There’s plenty of power inside to make it a perfect daily driver, with more than enough oomph for all your everyday smartphone tasks. FlexCam This makes it easier than ever to get that perfect Insta-ready selfie, whichever camera you use. You don’t even need to open the phone either. There’s a camera shortcut for the Flex Window, so you can snap away while it’s closed. Flex cam lets you use the hinge to your advantage and find the perfect angle. Plus, it’s great for group shots - just stand it up and take hands-free pics that fit everyone in the frame. And if you have the Galaxy Watch6, you can even control the camera remotely while you strike a pose. Durable design It’s well protected against accidental drops, knocks and scrapes. An ultra-tough combination of an Aluminium Armour frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 provides plenty of protection. On top of that, the IPX8 rating means it can sit in shallow water for up to 30 minutes. No need to panic if you drop it in the bath or the pool! Let us know if you’re a fan of foldables. What do you think of the Galaxy Z Flip 5? Sound off in the comments below.

A few worth checking out are BBC Good Food, Tasty, Big Oven, and Food Network. These apps are available on both Android and iOS. You can also save time buying ingredients by using an online grocery service like Ocado, Amazon Pantry, Amazon Fresh, and mySupermarket. So, put on that chef’s hat and learn how to bake that cake (and enjoy eating it too). 3. Explore local events Whatever your interests, you’ll usually find local events to suit you, or why not try something completely new? From music and comedy gigs to car shows, art exhibitions, or open-air theatre, there are plenty of events to choose from, often free of charge. A great way to find out about local events is by using location services (geotagging) in social media apps like Facebook and Instagram. Take a class and learn something new Interested in learning a new language, trying a life drawing class, or even giving line dancing a go? You’ll often find loads of local classes in all sorts of activities—all you have to do is look. Obby.co.uk is a great place to start for fun activities like pottery, dance, or jewelry making. The Best Camera Technology in Mobile Phones.Blog
The dawn of digital technology transformed our day-to-day lives in numerous ways, one of the most noteworthy of which is how we capture and share our life's moments. The advent of mobile phone cameras that rival and even surpass traditional digital cameras is a testimony to this technological revolution. For those of you considering purchasing a new phone, the following guide will highlight what to what to consider when selecting a camera and mobile phones that have the best camera technology on the market. The essential trio In today's digital age, smartphones have become the go-to devices for capturing moments. When selecting a phone with a built-in camera, three crucial factors come into play: megapixels, lenses, and aperture. These features greatly impact the quality, clarity, and versatility of the photographs you can capture. Let's delve into the importance and impact of each element. Megapixels: Beyond the Numbers Megapixels refer to the resolution or the amount of detail captured in an image. While a higher megapixel count does not guarantee superior image quality, it does offer more flexibility in cropping, zooming, and printing without significant loss of detail. When considering megapixels, it's essential to strike a balance between image size and file storage. Most smartphones today offer 12 to 48 megapixels, which are more than sufficient for everyday photography needs. Remember, factors like image sensor quality and image processing also influence image quality, so megapixels alone should not be the sole deciding factor. Lenses: The Window to the World The lens is the eye of the camera, affecting the quality of light and the overall image. A high-quality lens can capture more light, resulting in sharper images with better contrast and reduced distortion. Look for phones with lenses made from quality materials, such as glass, as they provide better light transmission. Additionally, consider the number of lenses and their functionalities, such as wide-angle, telephoto, or macro capabilities. A versatile lens setup allows you to adapt to various photography scenarios, whether it's capturing sweeping landscapes or detailed close-ups. So, pay attention to the lens specifications and make sure they align with your photographic preferences. Aperture: Playing with Light Aperture refers to the size of the opening that allows light to reach the camera sensor. It plays a vital role in determining the depth of field, low-light performance, and overall image quality. A wider aperture (denoted by a smaller f-number) allows more light to enter, resulting in better low-light photography and the ability to create a shallow depth of field with a blurred background. This is particularly useful for portrait photography. While larger apertures are generally desirable, be aware that they can impact sharpness at the edges of the image. Consider a smartphone with adjustable aperture settings, as this provides greater control over your photography and enhances your creative possibilities. Here’s a closer look at a few phones with some of the best camera technology out at the moment: iPhone 14 series In the ever-evolving smartphone landscape, Apple's iPhone 14 series stands atop the pedestal, especially when it comes to camera technology. The 14 Pro and Pro Max features a triple camera system — a 12 MP wide lens, 48 MP ultra-wide lens, and 12 MP telephoto lens — each lending unique capabilities. But it's not the megapixels that make these phone's camera shine; it's the integrated technologies like sensor-shift optical image stabilization, Night mode, and ProRAW that do. Apple's Deep Fusion technology uses machine learning for pixel-by-pixel processing of photos, resulting in remarkable details and low noise in photos. Further, the Night mode, now available on all cameras, ensures bright, clear, and color-accurate images even in the lowest light conditions. This smartphone is the choice for those looking to capture professional-grade photos without the hassle of carrying heavy equipment. Then and now: what’s changed in the past few years? (Android edition) – 2025Blog
Android fans, rejoice! The latest releases aren’t just about small upgrades — they’re packed with smarter software, more powerful processors, brighter displays, and seriously improved cameras. But how different are they really from their 2023 equivalents? Let’s take a look at how far we’ve come in just a couple of years, and what’s new across the most popular Android phones right now: Samsung S25, S25 Plus, S25 Ultra. Samsung’s latest flagship line brings meaningful hardware upgrades across the board. Displays remain bright and bold, now featuring even better colour accuracy and peak brightness, making outdoor use and HDR video more stunning than ever. The Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus feature sharp AMOLED panels with smoother, adaptive 120Hz refresh rates for seamless scrolling and gameplay. Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has been replaced by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. This means faster app launches, slicker multitasking, and improved power efficiency—all while handling AI features like Scene Optimiser and real-time photo enhancements with ease. The triple camera system still centres around a 50MP main sensor, but image quality gets a noticeable lift thanks to smarter processing, upgraded optics, and new AI-powered editing tools like AI Drawing Assist. It’s all about capturing better detail, colour, and clarity, no matter the lighting. For those going Ultra, the top-tier model packs in a huge 6.9” AMOLED display and a 200MP main camera—refined since its 2023 debut with better low-light capture, more natural depth, and clearer zoom shots thanks to dual telephoto lenses. A titanium frame adds durability without extra weight, and new post-quantum encryption helps keep your data safer than ever. Why upgrade? Expect faster performance, brighter screens, more battery smarts, and upgraded photography across the board. If you’re coming from a 2023 model, the difference is subtle in places—but meaningful in daily use. Check out the Samsung S25, Samsung S25 Plus and Samsung S25 Ultra on iD Mobile. Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. Google’s Pixel 9 lineup refines its clean design and standout camera performance — now with smarter AI and upgraded hardware to match. All models are powered by the new Tensor G4 chip, delivering faster, more efficient performance across gaming, multitasking, and AI tasks. Gemini AI is built in, enhancing your photos in real-time, helping with content generation, and making everyday interactions feel more intuitive. The Pixel 9 features a 6.3-inch OLED Actua Display with a 60–120Hz variable refresh rate, and a dual camera system with a 50MP main sensor and a 48MP ultrawide lens, delivering sharp, colour-accurate images in all lighting conditions. The Pixel 9 Pro upgrades to a 6.3-inch OLED Super Actua Display with a 1–120Hz refresh rate, and adds a 48MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and up to 30x Super Res Zoom. You’ll also find a new 42MP front camera with a wider field of view — perfect for high-quality selfies and video calls. At the top of the range, the Pixel 9 Pro XL offers a larger 6.8-inch display, 16GB of RAM, and a bigger battery, making it ideal for power users who demand extra screen space and smoother multitasking. Audio quality also gets a bump for an even more immersive experience. Why upgrade? The Pixel 9 series delivers across the board — with smarter AI, better displays, and powerful cameras. The Pro models offer premium features like telephoto zoom and ultra-responsive displays, while the Pro XL is built for users who want peak performance and productivity. Plus, all models come with seven years of software updates, so they stay up to date well into the future. Check out the Google Pixel 9, Google Pixel 9 Pro and Google Pixel 9 Pro XL on iD Mobile. Samsung Galaxy S24 FE. Compared to the Galaxy S21 FE from 2022, the S24 FE includes a sharper 50MP main camera, replacing the older 12MP sensor. That means more detail, richer colour and improved clarity — even when zooming or cropping. It also adds an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultra-wide camera, giving you more versatility for every shot. The display is brighter and smoother too, thanks to a 6.7” Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with up to 1,900 nits of peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate. That means improved contrast, colour and visibility in bright light — whether you’re watching videos or scrolling through apps. The processor gets a serious bump, with the new Exynos 2400 (or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in select regions), so whether you’re gaming, streaming or using multiple apps at once, performance stays fast and fluid. There’s also a boost to battery life, with a 4,700mAh battery (up from 4,500mAh) and support for 25W wired, 15W wireless and reverse wireless charging. Why upgrade? If you’re after something with flagship-level features but don’t want to go all-in, the S24 FE is a smart upgrade from the S21 FE — with better cameras, smoother visuals, more power and smarter AI tools that make everyday use even more seamless. Check out the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE on iD Mobile. Samsung Galaxy A26 5G. Samsung’s A-series is all about getting the essentials right — and this latest release goes above and beyond. The Galaxy A26 5G eeps the affordable price tag but steps things up with a 6.7” Full HD+ AMOLED display and a smoother 120Hz refresh rate — that’s up from 90Hz on the A14. You’ll notice it when scrolling social feeds, gaming, or watching videos. The triple camera setup now includes a 50MP main lens, along with ultra-wide and macro options — giving you more variety for capturing your surroundings. Add in features like AI-powered Object Eraser and on-device photo tips, and you’ve got a surprisingly powerful photography setup for the price. Under the surface, the Exynos 1380 processor keeps everything running smoothly. There’s now 256GB of storage, expandable up to 2TB — a big jump from the A14’s more limited options — and IP67 water and dust resistance gives it more durability for everyday life. Why upgrade? It’s a worthy step up from the Galaxy A14 in almost every area — display, speed, storage, and camera features — all while keeping things affordable. Check out the Samsung Galaxy A26 5G on iD Mobile.
Then and now: what’s changed in the past few years? (iPhone edition) – 2024Blog
Every year brings a new iPhone line-up, with cool new features and innovations to make your mobile life better. Whether it’s ground-breaking camera tech, ever-smarter AI or an updated operating system, the latest iPhones can do things that weren’t possible a few years ago. So, let’s see how the latest Apple iPhone line-up compares with the previous generations. iPhone 14 iPhone 14 shares the same design (and 6.1-inch screen size) with the iPhone 13, so there’s no major difference with the look and feel. If it ain’t broke, why fix it? Our favourite new feature on the iPhone is a potential life-saver called crash detection. This can actually detect if you’re in a car crash, and sound an alarm on your iPhone. If you don’t answer the alarm in 10 seconds, your iPhone will then automatically contact the emergency services. Very clever stuff. The main camera on the iPhone 14 has a faster aperture and larger sensor than the iPhone 13, so photos are now better than ever – incredibly sharp and packed with detail. Selfies on the iPhone 14 are better too, thanks to the upgraded front camera with stabilisation and autofocus. There’s also a new video “action mode” on the iPhone 14, which stops shaking and stabilises the action even when you’re running around – so it’s ideal for taking videos of chasing your dog in the park, or trying to keep up with the kids on their bikes. The iPhone 14 is actually powered by the same A15 Bionic chip as iPhone 13 (you’ll only find the newer A16 Bionic chip on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max). When it appeared on the iPhone 13, the A15 Bionic chip was the fastest on any smartphone ever, and it’s still an incredibly fast and powerful processor. Plus, the iPhone 14’s battery life is the best that’s ever been on an iPhone. The Bionic chip and new software work together so efficiently that the iPhone 14 will easily last all day, even if you’re hitting it hard. See the latest iPhone 14 deals on iD Mobile. iPhone 13 Okay, so we’ve shown you how Apple’s latest iPhone 14 is a step up from the older iPhone 13. But here’s the thing – for its price, the iPhone 13 is still a fantastic phone. To highlight what’s so good about it, let’s compare it to the iPhone 11 from three years ago. The iPhone 13 came with a new A15 Bionic chip, which outperformed every processor that came before it – and still shines in 2023. As well as its general performance, improvements to graphics and battery life made the iPhone 13 a massive upgrade over the iPhone 11. The iPhone 13 may have the same screen size as the iPhone 11, but it’s more compact, with narrower borders and a smaller notch. Like the best TVs, it also has an OLED display for vibrant colours and deep, deep blacks. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 11 both have similar camera specs (dual 12 MP cameras on the back, and another on the front) but the 13 has way more tech packed in. You get better low-light shots as well as cool features like HDR video. Finally, Apple doubled its minimum storage capacity to 128GB on iPhone 13 – more than enough for all your movies, apps, music, and games! Check out the iPhone 13 on iD Mobile. iPhone SE (3rd gen) The entry level iPhone SE gives you lots of great Apple features at smaller price tag. But how does the latest iPhone SE (3rd gen) compare to the 2020 iPhone SE (2nd gen)? Both the 2nd and 3rd generation iPhone SEs have the same look and feel. They’re larger than the original SE, but still very compact compared to large-screen premium phones. The main difference in terms of design, is that the iPhone 3rd gen has a ceramic shield glass and aluminium frame, which makes it more durable than ever. Under the hood, you now have an A15 bionic chip compared to the older A13 chip. And that means waaay more power, better graphics, and two hours more battery life. Oh, and 5G connectivity of course. Control your kids mobile spend.Blog
Does your kid have a phone? It’s a great way of teaching them to be responsible and care for something properly. But at the same time, you’ll want to protect yourself from unexpected mobile bills. There are lots of reasons why this might happen – from your kid getting carried away on in-app purchases, to accidental issues like being charged for extra data. Luckily, there are lots of things you can do to control your child’s mobile spend, especially if they’re on an iD Mobile plan. Check out our top tips below. How to restrict in-game and in-app purchases We’ve all seen those newspaper articles with titles like ‘My child spent over £1000 on Candy Crush!” Shocking stuff, but luckily, it’s easy to put a stop to unwelcome in-app purchases. We suggest it’s the very the first thing you do on your child’s phone. That way, there’s no danger of them buying things they shouldn’t. No matter how much they’re into their fave game. On Android, you can easily add password protection on the Google Play Store app: Open Google Play, go to Menu > Settings > Require authentication for purchases > For all purchases. Job done! Now your child won’t be able to buy anything without your permission. Here’s how to restrict in-game and in-app purchases on an iPhone: Go to Settings > General > Restrictions. Tap Enable Restrictions > enter a PIN, then choose In-App Purchases in the list of options under the Restrictions tab. How to put a cap on iD Mobile bills If your child has a phone with an iD Mobile SIM, you can use the handy bill capping feature to control their out-of-plan spending. This won’t prevent them making purchases from the app store (the section above does that), but it will stop them (or you, rather) racking up additional charges if they run out of monthly data and keep using their phone on-the-go. To set a cap, go to Cap My Extra Usage Charges on the dashboard of the iD Mobile app. Tap ‘Set a cap now’, and dial the slider up or down to choose a credit limit between £0 and £25. How to install parental filters You don’t want your kids seeing any content that’s unsuitable for them. That’s why we’ve put a content restriction service on the iD Mobile app. Head to Services, toggle on the Adult Content Filtering switch, and the phone will block adult content. Easy. Also, why not download a parental control app with lots of features to monitor your child’s mobile life? Qustodio is a fantastic app that gives you the power to filter web content, monitor calls and limit screen time (yay). There’s also a panic button, so if your child has an emergency, they can contact you quickly with a single click. It’s good to talk Putting restrictions (like the ones mentioned above) on your child’s phone is definitely a good idea. But it’s also really important to talk your children through the risks associated with going online. Let them know what’s acceptable, and that they can come to you for help if they see or receive anything inappropriate. And finally, you can’t go wrong by telling them to avoid the temptation of making in-app purchases! Do you think we’ve missed any tips on controlling your kids mobile spend? What do you think of the advice we’ve given above? Let us know in the comments section below.
3 best weather apps for the UK and away.Blog
Whether you're planning a picnic in the park or a beach holiday in a tropical paradise, we all know that staying on top of the weather forecast is crucial. But it’s also become easier than ever. Gone are the days of searching through a newspaper to see whether you should call off your BBQ. Say hello to weather apps. We're living in an age where weather apps can give you an hour-by-hour weather forecast on your mobile. But there’s a lot more to them than “it’s sunny” or “a bit cloudy.” You’ll get access to all kinds of weather maps, data and even online communities. So, you can use them to plan a picnic, a day out or even an entire holiday – so you’ll always know what to pack! So, let's dive into the three top weather apps that will keep you prepared and in the know, wherever you end up. 1.Met Office – the essential info If you’re just after the basics, the Met Office app is clean and simple and will give you your location’s weather at a glance. You can see whether it’s going to be wet or dry or dig a bit deeper into wind speed, pollen count and more. There’s also a weather map that you can control with a time slider, so you can watch the clouds roll in and (hopefully) around you. But if you just want a quick update without having to do loads of reading, the Met Office also has a regularly updated video that will give you the latest UK forecast. Download for free: Android / iOS 2.AccuWeather – the best all-rounder This app has been around for ages, and it's still going strong. AccuWeather provides accurate forecasts with a user-friendly interface. One of its best points is the MinuteCast, which gives you minute-by-minute rain warnings. No more getting caught in a surprise downpour! AccuWeather also gives you weather widgets, allowing you to customise your home screen with all the essential weather info you need at a glance. The app also comes with detailed radar maps, so you can track storms as they approach. Whether you're planning to dodge the rain in the UK or planning your holiday tan, AccuWeather has got you covered. Download for free: Android / iOS 3.Weather Underground – one for the weather nerds! This app takes weather geekiness to a whole new level with pretty much everything you’d want to know about the weather. If you know someone you loves talking about the weather, then point them to Weather Underground. Because it has its very own community providing updated info, it’s highly rated for its accuracy – even if its display isn’t the slickest. Users can submit their own weather observations, creating a network of real-time data – a bit like Waze for weather! You can also access webcams from around the world to see the current conditions first hand. The only possible downside is that coverage won’t be as good in areas with fewer app users. Download for free: Android / iOS With these apps in your pocket, you'll never be caught off guard by changeable again. So get downloading and stay one step ahead of the weather, wherever your adventures take you. Got a fave weather app you’d recommend to the Community? Let us know below.
Great smartphones out in 2023.Blog
We’re half-way through the year, and we’ve had some amazing phones released so far! Here’s a round-up of some of the best phones released this year. Samsung Galaxy S23 series Samsung launched its new flagship S23 family earlier this year, with three models available - the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and high-end Galaxy S23 Ultra. The entry-level Galaxy S23 packs a lot of power into a compact body, perfect for smaller hands and pockets. The 6.1-inch FHD+ display has an adaptive refresh rate that goes up to 120Hz, so motion is really smooth. It’s super bright too, so you won’t have to squint to read it in bright sunlight. There are three cameras on the back. A 50MP main shooter for pin-sharp portraits, a 12MP ultra-wide camera for sweeping scenery, and a 10MP telephoto zoom lens for picking out distant objects. There’s also a 12MP front facing camera for great looking selfies. The Galaxy S23 Plus takes all the standout features from its little brother above and puts them in a bigger package. The 6.6-inch display gives you more room to play with, so you can run two apps and multitask like a pro, or just kick back and watch a movie. Then there’s the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which really lives up to its name. Its 6.8-inch Quad HD+ display makes websites, games and movies all look amazing. Plus, its adaptive refresh rate can go between 1 and 120Hz. That means it’s buttery smooth when you need it, but it’ll also saves battery life when it can. The camera setup includes a 200MP main lens for epic detail. It makes colours and textures pop, and Nightography mode is better than ever. The S-Pen is another thing that sets the Ultra apart - it’s a responsive stylus that lets you draw, doodle and write with precision when you need it, and you can even use it as a remote shutter for the camera. Google Pixel 7a The Pixel 7a is a small but action-packed version of Google’s flagship Pixel 7. It’s a great choice if you want to upgrade to a phone packed with the latest Google tech, all a low monthly price. How low? Well, you can get it from iD Mobile for less than £25 a month with unlimited data. The Pixel 7a features a 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED display that gives you deep blacks and vibrant colours, with a 90hz refresh rate that makes everything you do look and feel smooth. Google Pixels are famous for their quality cameras and the Pixel 7a doesn’t disappoint, with a huge 64MP main sensor and ultrawide 13MP sensor for epic landscape shots. You’ll get brilliant details in every photo you take, including shots in low light. You can also get rid of photobombers and unwanted background objects with the help of the clever Magic Eraser. The Pixel 7a is powered by Google’s custom-built Tensor G2 processor. According to Google, it makes the Pixel 7a a speedier, more efficient and more secure phone than ever before. Honor Magic 5 Pro The Magic 5 Pro is Honor’s new flagship phone with seriously impressive specs. For starters, there’s a 6.81-inch OLED display with a refresh rate up to 120Hz, which keeps everything consistently smooth and good looking. Brightness is really impressive, with 1,800 nits making it pop even more than other flagship phones like the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The stand-out design feature has to be the camera, a triple-lens ‘Star Wheel’ that sticks out from the phone’s rear. It really gives the Honor Magic 5 Pro a unique look, and it’s where you’ll find a 50MP wide lens, 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom. Everything you shoot on this camera will be sharp, vivid and full of colour – even in tricky lighting conditions. And the zoom lens delivers a sharpness that’s up there with the best premium phones around. Under the hood, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor running the show - exactly the same processor that’s in a lot of the other best Android phones of 2023. Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Series The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12, Note 12 Pro 5G, and Note 12 Pro Plus 5G is a great mid-range trio focused on impressive specs and serious value. The Note 12 is the entry level phone of the family. Just like the other Note 12 phones, it’s got a 6.67-inch Full HD+ OLED display that’s bright, colourful and sharp. And with a 120Hz refresh rate, everything you do on it is super smooth. The 50MP triple camera system features a high-resolution main lens, ultra-wide lens and a dedicated macro lens for extreme close-ups. Elsewhere on the phone you’ll find a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack (a nice feature for anyone still rocking headphones that plug in), and the large 5,000mAh battery is capable of 21 hours of video playback. That’s a serious binging session. The Note 12 Pro 5G is the second phone in the series, with the same display as the Note 12. The main difference is the camera, with the Note 12 Pro 5G using a 50MP Sony IMX766 main sensor. This means you’ll be able to capture more detail, and with optical image stabilisation, your shots will be crisp and blur-free. And finally, there’s the Note 12 Pro Plus 5G. The camera is a major upgrade, with a huge 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HPX main sensor, which has a wider f/1.65 aperture that captures more light – so it’s a great camera for night-time shots. And while this phone has the same size battery as the Note 12 Pro 5G, its 120W charging is much faster. Giveaway Time! Foldable phones are coming soon!Blog
Guess what? It seems that all those foldable phone rumours are finally coming true! Samsung’s head of mobile confirmed this week that it is “time to deliver” foldable smartphones. This news has got us thinking - and here are things we’re hoping to see from a foldable phone in the future. A screen the size of a tablet Rumours of a foldable Samsung phone have been around for years, following patents of a foldable device reported to be named the Galaxy X. The Galaxy X (if it’s actually going to be called that) is expected to feature a tablet-like 7-inch OLED screen that folds in half. The thinking here, is that your phone can double up as a tablet when needed. And that’s great for all sorts of things. You could watch a movie on the train, on a device that folds right back up once you’ve reached your destination. You’ll also be able to play the latest games on a larger screen that really does them justice. Thinner and more portable Samsung first introduced its flexible OLED display way back at CES 2013.The screen was as thin as a piece of card, made from plastic, and bended both ways. Phones are already super-thin, but if we’re to get foldable phones they’ll need to be even thinner. And that means they’ll be more portable, and able to fit into smaller pockets. Perhaps that little pocket on your jeans will finally come in handy. More than one screen to enjoy It’s almost a given that foldable phone screens will be larger than those on your average smartphone, and that’s great. What’s even more exciting is that a foldable Samsung phone could have as many as three screens. In theory you could have one screen on the front for notifications and texts. Then you could have two screens inside that combine to form one large display when you open the device out like a tablet. So you could use that first screen as your primary display (just like a regular phone), and the use the other two if you need more working space, or want to watch movies on a bigger screen. Full-sized multitasking Today’s smartphones are great at multitasking. The only problem is they offer so little screen space for it. A flexible phone, on the other hand, could transform a single screen into two displays - so it’ll feel just like you’ve got an extra phone screen to work on. For example, you could have YouTube on one screen, and Microsoft Word on the other. Whatever helps you get things done. No more cracked screens Any type of flexible or foldable display is likely to be thinner than the one you have on your phone right now. It may not even be made from glass, which means it won’t break even if it’s dropped. We can hear the sighs of relief from here. Those are just some of the things we’re hoping to see on a foldable phone. What else are you expecting? Got any questions? Then let us know in the comments below.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 vs Pixel Fold.Blog
With two new top foldable phones out, it’s a great time to be a foldable fan! Foldables give you the same kind of screen you’d usually see on a tablet, but with all your fave phone features too. That means you can watch movies and multitask before folding your phone away and popping it in your pocket. Pretty neat! Foldables have been developing at speed in the last few years and now Google and Samsung have taken foldable phones to the next level. But both of these big hitters are pretty similar in terms of price. So, which one should you part your folding money for? And what’ll give you the most bang for your buck? Don’t worry, we’ll help you decide… Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Even more power, cameras, and screens. That’s the Galaxy Z Fold4 in a nutshell. While the standard 6.2-inch screen is already a good size, when you unfold the 7.6-inch main display, you’ve got even more options. If you want, you can have three different windows open at the same time. So, you could be video calling a friend while you surf the web and text your mum on the others. How’s that for multitasking! Nothing will slow you down either. The new taskbar is designed to help you whizz between each app – while a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor gives you tons of power that’ll keep everything running smoother, brighter and faster. This top performance also makes it a great choice for gaming on the go. Letting you battle your enemies on the train, plane or just while you’re on your lunch break at the office. It’s a real game changer. Samsung have also managed to slot in three different rear cameras here. You’ve got a 3x optical zoom telephoto one. A wide-angle cam. And an ultra-wide option for those stunning holiday vistas. You’ll be ready for any kind of snappy situation, that’s for sure. Then there’s Nightography. So, when the sun goes down – or you hit the town – you’ll capture those great memories clear as day. It’s a winner if you’re a creative type too. Just grab yourself an S Pen and pop the Z Fold4 into tablet form. It’ll be just like you’re writing or drawing with a normal pen and paper. Making it perfect for note taking, a spot of graphic design, or just a quick doodle. Google Pixel Fold The Fold is Google’s first foldable phone. And they’ve really smashed it out the park here. Like the Fold4, it’s a similar size to any normal smartphone when it’s closed. But the proper fun starts once you flip it open. Opening up the 5.8-inch display reveals a 7.6-inch tablet screen. Which gives you a load of extra space for having fun or getting stuff done. Watching your favourite films or shows is even more immersive. While with split screen mode – which lets you run two apps side-by-side – you can be even more productive and tackle tasks quickly and easily. This screen is currently the thinnest on the market too. So, you can easily take the Fold anywhere without it feeling too bulky. Love snapping selfies? You’re in luck. With the 48-megapixel triple rear camera, you can take the highest quality selfie on any Pixel phone ever. Just unfold it, use one part of the screen as a viewfinder, and take Insta-ready photos from the off. Or, if you fancy yourself as more of a landscape photographer, there’s an ultrawide lens to fit even more in. While the highest quality zoom on a foldable phone means even far off objects are incredibly detailed. You really won’t have to worry about running out of juice either. The Fold packs a hefty 24+ hour battery life – which is more than enough for when you’re out and about. But if you do happen to be heading further afield without your charger (or somewhere to plug in), you’re covered too. With Extreme Battery Saver, you can squeeze out up to 72 hours from it. Nice! Got your eyes on one of these phones? Let us know which one you like the look of in the comments below!

Mental Health Awareness Week.Blog
Inspired by Mental Health Awareness Week, the team at iD Mobile have been focussing a lot on their own mental well-being recently. Thinking about what matters most to us, we wanted to share some of our favourite apps that we’ve found to be great for mindfulness, meditation and clearing your head from stress: Headspace iOS/Android It makes total sense to start with a no-brainer. Headspace is one of the best-known meditation apps out there, and from personal experience, it’s really effective. The app eases you into the essentials of meditation and mindfulness with a free 10-part basics course. Each of these sessions will come in three, five or 10-minute chunks, so you can pick a session based on how much time you have. The meditations are quite easy to follow, too. Once you’ve completed the free trial you’ll need to pay for further sessions – but whether you pay the £9.99 a month subscription or use it as an introduction into meditation, we’d highly recommend it. Calm iOS/Android Another of the more popular meditation apps is Calm - which brings joy, peace and a sense of clarity to everyday life. As soon as you open it, you’re greeted with the immediate sound of falling rain, a crackling fireplace or crickets in the background. Then, you can get a little bit of ‘me time’ with a whole host of short, medium or long meditation sessions. Remember being a kid and nodding off to a bedtime story? Try Calm’s Sleep Stories, read by the likes of Stephen Fry and meditation expert, Tarama Levitt – which will help send you off into a blissful slumber. Like several other mindfulness apps on offer, you get a free trial and then it’s £9.99 for Calm thereafter. Insight Timer iOS/Android Sharing is caring. That’s why Insight Time is such a hit with subscribers. Described as ‘a social network for meditators’, the app lets you share and discuss your mindfulness experience with like-minded people all around the world. Not only is there a whole network of community groups ranging from beginners to expert, but there’s also a vast library packed with guided mediations led by some of the world’s top experts. What better way to learn than from the very best? Aura iOS/Android If you’re looking for a meditative experience more tailored to you, Aura is the app you need in your life. It learns about you by asking questions. You then receive a daily three-minute meditation based on the answers you give. So, if you’re feeling particularly heavy-headed one day, it’ll give you the tools you need to take a much-needed step back from your busy schedule to focus on your mental health. Do you currently use a mindfulness app? Is it one of these? If not, which one do you fancy downloading? Post a reply below, and share with the Community!
Meet the Pixel 7a.Blog
The Pixel 7a is here. It’s a smaller but still-powerful version of the flagship Pixel 7, and Google says its new Pixel 7a is “super fast, secure and full of essentials.” If you want to upgrade to a phone packed with the latest Google tech (including a great camera) at a less than premium price, it’s a great choice. Here’s all you need to know… Classic Google design All phones in the Pixel 7 family share the same classic ‘Google’ design, with a horizontal c amera shelf blending into the phone at the rear. This has a more metallic finish on the new Pixel 7a compared to the Pixel 6a, so it feels more premium. Plus, Google says the Pixel 7a is the most durable Pixel a-series phone yet, with enough water resistance to survive occasional splashes or even a drop in the sink. As for the screen on the front, the Pixel 7a features a 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED display. Exactly the same as the Pixel 6a. But there’s a real difference with refresh rate – the Pixel 7a has 90hz, compared with Pixel 6a’s modest 60hz. That should make everything you do look and feel super smooth, with deep blacks and colours that really pop. The famous Google camera Google Pixel phones are well-known for having great cameras, and the Pixel 7a has really upped its game here. The main camera now has a huge 64MP sensor, compared with the Pixel 6a’s 12MP sensor. The Pixel 7a’s ultrawide 13MP sensor is also slightly larger than the Pixel 7a’s 12MP offering. With the Pixel 7a’s impressive camera setup, you’ll get brilliant details in every photo you take, including shots in low light. Meanwhile, handy features like Magic Eraser and Camouflage give you the power to get rid of distracting objects in the background. You can also use Photo Unblur to make your pictures sharper. It’s so satisfying it almost feels like cheating! A chip off the old block The Pixel 7a is powered by exactly the same chip that’s in the Pixel 7 Pro. It’s Google’s custom-built Tensor G2 processor, powerful enough to run the most advanced AI. Google says it makes the Pixel 7a a faster, more efficient and more secure phone than ever before. And because it’s so efficient, battery life doesn’t take too much of a hit. It lasts for 24 hours of normal use, and up to 3 days with extreme battery saving switched on. You’ll be able to get your Pixel 7a back up to speed quickly with fast-charging, which gives you hours of power in just a few minutes. And if you don’t like faffing about with cables, you’ve now got the option of wireless charging. The best of Google The Pixel 7a runs Android 13, Google’s latest operating system. It keeps everything clean and clutter-free, and you’ll only find Google's best apps pre-installed - Maps, Pay, Play Store and the like. Because it’s a Pixel phone, the Pixel 7a should be among the first to get upgraded to Android 14 when it’s released later this year. What’s more, Google has promised that it’ll also be upgraded to Android 15 and 16, at least. Security updates also run for at least five years, keeping you safe and secure all the way to 2028. You can order the Pixel 6a from iD Mobile right now. Fancy a set of cool earbuds at no extra cost? Purchase a Google Pixel 7a between 9pm on 10th May 2023 and 11pm on 22nd May 2023 and you’ll receive a pair of Pixel Buds A-Series worth £99. While stocks last, T&Cs apply. What do you think about the Pixel 7a? Are you planning on upgrading? Got any questions? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
Our top hidden phone features.Blog
Most of us use our smartphones every single day, but it’s probably fair to say we don’t always get the most out of them. Or actually realise how to. There’s a ton of clever features tucked away just out of sight on iPhone and Android that you might not know about. From fun ones to the more practical, here are a few of our favourites that you’re definitely going to want to try out… Document scanner Got an important doc you need to scan and send for work? No worries. If you’ve got an iPhone, fire up your Notes app. Create a new note, and then tap the camera icon at the bottom of your screen. Hit ‘Scan Documents’ and position your camera over the document. It’ll then automatically snap it for you. But if you want some more control, hit ‘Auto’ in the top right corner. It’ll switch to ‘Manual’ mode, letting you scan it in the same way you’d take a photo. Then just crop the corners of your doc, and when you’re happy with it, hit save. Sorted. It's a bit different on Android. Open your camera app and place it over the document. If it’s all in shot, a yellow border will pop up around it. Press the ‘Tap to Scan’ button and then drag your corners to set the scan area. When it’s looking good, press save to store it. Who needs a printer with a scanner, eh? Magnifying glass Don’t just sit there squinting at some tiny text (or your colleagues’ scruffy handwriting). On iPhone, swipe right past your home screens until your App Library pops up. Find the ‘Utilities’ folder, open it up, and you’ll spot the Magnifier app. Use it to zoom right in on those hard-to-read words. You can even tweak the contrast and brightness to make things way clearer. For Android, you’ll need to open your camera app. Instead of pinching your fingers together on the screen, move them apart. This’ll help to magnify whatever you’re looking at. And save you an annoying headache in the long run. Pedometer This might give you the nudge you need to get up and going. In the Health app on your iPhone, there’s a pedometer which automatically counts your steps. It’ll compare your data week on week too. So, if you’ve been a real couch potato, it’ll quickly let you know. Click ‘Edit’ on your favourites section and you can track a bunch of other stats as well. Whether that’s distance covered or your walking speed. You’ll be able to really dig into all the important fitness nitty gritty to see how you’re getting on. Google phones have their own app too (imaginatively called Google Fit). Just hit the ‘Steps’ button and it’ll record how much you’ve walked. And Samsung’s own Health app does the same job as well. So, there’s an option there for whatever kind of phone you’ve got. Emoji and text shortcuts If you want to save even more time while you text, check out text replacement shortcuts. On iPhone, head to your settings and click ‘Keyboard’ then ‘Text Replacement’. Hit the plus symbol in the top right corner and two boxes will appear. In the box ‘Shortcut’ you can put either an emoji or an acronym, and then the longer version of it in the ‘Phrase’ box above. This way, when you hit your chosen emoji, or write the short version of something like ‘omw’, the full ‘on my way’ will show up instead. Smart. Search photos by category Those 40 selfies. Multiple pics of your nan’s cute dog. Too many memes to count. Most of us have a camera roll that’s stuffed full of snaps. But on Android and iPhone, you can quickly find that photo you need. Go to your pictures and tap the ‘Search’ icon. Then type in any word you like. It should then pull up any relevant images - saving you a bunch of time in the process. Giveaway Time! - Closed for new entries. This month we’re giving you the chance to win a £100 Currys gift voucher! All you have to do is tell us below, what’s your favourite phone feature or hidden trick that not everyone may know about is. Maybe you use Google Lens to help you with translations, or perhaps you are a master of using gesture controls. Whatever it is we want to know! Simply type your response below and click send - you’ll automatically be entered in to our random prize-draw. Entries close at 23:59 on 24th March 2023, and we'll announce the lucky iD community winner shortly after. Good Luck! T&C’s Apply

What is AI?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been one of the most talked-about technological innovations of the past decade, and for good reason. It has the potential to revolutionize the way we live, work, and interact with the world around us. In this article, we will discuss what AI is and suggest three apps that you can use to experience AI in action What is AI? AI refers to computer systems that are designed to perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence, such as learning, problem-solving, decision-making, and natural language processing. AI systems are built using a variety of technologies, including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision. Machine learning is a branch of AI that involves training computer algorithms to learn from data. The algorithms can then use this learning to make predictions or decisions about new data they encounter. Deep learning is a subfield of machine learning that uses neural networks to learn from large amounts of data. Natural language processing (NLP) is the ability of computers to understand, interpret, and generate human language. NLP enables chatbots, virtual assistants, and other AI-powered systems to communicate with humans in a way that feels natural and intuitive. Computer vision is the ability of computers to interpret and analyse visual information from the world around them. Computer vision enables self-driving cars, facial recognition systems, and other AI-powered technologies that rely on visual data. Four AI-powered apps that’ll make your life easier: Grammarly Grammarly is an AI-powered writing assistant that helps users improve their writing by suggesting corrections to grammar, spelling, and style. The app uses natural language processing to analyze text and provide suggestions for improvement. Grammarly is available as a browser extension, desktop app, and mobile app, making it a convenient tool for anyone who wants to improve their writing. Free - In-App Purchases - iOS - Android Prisma Prisma is an AI-powered photo editing app that uses neural networks to transform ordinary photos into works of art. The app applies filters that mimic the styles of famous artists such as Van Gogh and Picasso, giving users the ability to turn their photos into unique pieces of art. Prisma is available for both iOS and Android devices and is free to download. Free - iOS - Android Google Lens Google Lens is an AI-powered visual search app that allows users to search for information about objects they encounter in the real world. Users can point their camera at a book, landmark, or other object and Google Lens will provide information and context about that object. Google Lens can also translate text in real-time and provide product recommendations based on visual data. Google Lens is available as a standalone app or as part of the Google Photos app and is free to download. Free - iOS - Android These apps demonstrate the diverse range of applications for AI technology, from writing assistants to visual search tools. As AI continues to advance, we can expect to see even more innovative applications that make our lives easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable. Have you got a favorite AI powered app?
