Calls.

Old number switched to iD mobile.

Able to receive and send texts but cannot make or receive calls.

Any suggestions on how to sort?

Best answer by Daz_S

Hmm, okay. I wasn’t expecting to hear that on BOTH phones.

So, what to do….

Possibly, try this first:

Just on yours FTTB. With the phone ON eject the SIM. Give it a few minutes then reinsert the SIM. Any good?

If not, try this:

(again just yours). Phone off, eject SIM. Switch phone on and allowing to fully boot. Reinsert SIM. Any good now?

If not, try this (and sorry for all of this thus far):

With the phone ON eject the SIM. Give it a few minutes then reinsert the SIM, allow it to show registered to iD, press and hold the power button, opt for a restart. Any good?

At least, AFAIK, having DS is at least something that sounds about right.

Well, firstly since Three (and iD piggybacks on 3) turned off 3G in certain areas, some of my fellow customers have been having a few restless days, and in some cases nights too.

So I’d advise you check to see if your phone is actually compatible on the iD network by clicking the link below:

Then if yours is on the list, and you are in the current 3G switch off area, check your phone is set up for use with 4G and more importantly VoLTE.

Select either iPhone, Samsung or most other Android phone on the link below:

Good luck!!

Hi @waynejohnson

What phone do you have?
As @Daz_S has stated, you need to connect to LTE for your phone to work with the ‘4G’ network.
4G is just the generic name given to this generation of network but VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is the actual type of network that is being used and so you need to be able connect to that for your phone to work.
There is plenty of information on the internet with regards to ‘how’ you can rectify this problem for your phone, so just do a search and I’m sure you will find an answer.
If not let us know and someone may be able to point you in the right direction.

Good Luck x

That looks good to me.

So, a few things you could try:

  1. If you have a Samsung account (or create one if so wish) → go to the Galaxy Store app→ MenuUpdates and see if any are showing. You’d be surprised how many of these phones have updates waiting for them

  2. From any screen, if you swipe down and turn off the Wi-Fi. Does 4G show immediately in place of the Wi-Fi icon? It should.

  3. From that screenshot you posted, click on Network operators → slide Select automatically to off → it’ll auto scan for all available networks and then select any of the other networks BUT NOT iD. It’ll try to connect and fail (you want this to happen). Then from that same screen select iD. It’ll reconnect and I would suggest you slide auto back on → at this point you might see it’s connects to iD again and that’s perfectly fine if it does or doesn’t. Close that page.

  4. With the WiFi still off can you make a call now?

  5. If you still can’t make a call turn the WiFi back on press the green call button, at the top you should see 3 dots, tap this and click on settings. Look for Wi-Fi calling and if it’s off swipe it on. Can you now make a call (this will be a Wi-Fi call not a ‘normal’ call?

  6. If Wi-Fi calling was already on and you could make a call, try with it turned off. Can you make a call now?

Just a note about #3. This should reset the iD network without losing all of your saved Wi-Fi passwords etc. This is something I’ve suggested to others many times and have done so myself a few times now since joining iD - I too am having issues but mines only poor signal, not the lack making or receiving calls.

If you can only make calls over Wi-Fi then either I’ve missed something, or something is set wrong with your phone, the network in your area is throwing a wobbly or something isn’t configured right with iD.

It may even be the case that the account isn’t going fully live until (whats now later on) today.

What phone do you have please?

Is the issue still only with making or receiving calls?

Thanks,

Hi @waynejohnson

Even though you have ‘VoLTE calls iD SIM’ turned on it looks as though you don’t have ‘LTE’ enabled in the ‘Network Mode’.
On a SG phone you need to see ‘LTE’ in the Network mode (Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)) for it to actually be able to connect (even if the VoLTE calls toggle is on).
‘4G’ is just a label for the ‘4th Generation’ network connection but VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is the actual type of network and so you need to connect to ‘LTE’ to be able to use it.
‘Google’ (other search engines are available) is your friend on how to do this if it is not available in your phones settings.
This is my SG phone…..

@waynejohnson and @Decembersangel72

I’m happy to be corrected, but the screen Wayne posted still looks ok to me, albeit the latter screen shows Roaming on, that should really be off unless using the phone overseas. My wife’s phone is newer than mine and I’m sure hers is also like Wayne’s - I can check that later as I don’t have access to that phone at time of posting this.

But there is somewhere else to check and verify if LTE is enabled for voice calls and that’s to go:

Settings → (then scroll down to) About phoneStatus informationSIM card status → and under Mobile voice network type does it show LTE and does Mobile data network show as LTE (or again maybe as yours is a newer phone) 4G?

FWIW mine both state LTE, however during an actually call (and possibly due to my ongoing signal issues) each one drops to UMTS and HSPA+ respectively

Thanks for that @waynejohnson we could be getting somewhere, but not sure where that is!!!

And you’re probably right if it works in your better half’s phone😮. What about her SIM in yours?

My ‘boss’ has just waltzed in and I’ve been looking at hers and mine together - phones that is…

So, don’t post the image from this screen, but is you go to SettingsAbout phone

  • Does YOUR current number show as the Phone number in the format of +447xxxxxxxxx. Mine when I was with my previous provider was stuck on the SIM number allocated by them, not my actual number and we couldn’t resolve it.
  • Does the Model number show (and this is what I checked on ours) as SM-<some numbers and letters>/DS

You could check your wife’s phone out too, to see if hers is the same as yours, or if either ends in different letters. Both of ours ends in /DS and ours are unlocked to any network.

Next to phone number it says Unknown on both phones and model number on both end with DS.

Not sure if this is anything but when I try and go in to this it's says failed to connect.

On wife's phone under show your caller ID it says Network default but on my phone nothing.

No none of them worked.

Not sure if this is anything. But on wife's phone under show caller ID it says Network default.

On my phone it says failed to read data when I try to click on anything.

<Hoping this posts as it’s taken sometime to get passed an iD splash screen stating something’s gone wrong - seeing this on a few different threads too>

Doh! @waynejohnson I’m struggling to think of what else it can be.

Maybe either a replacement SIM(s) or maybe even giving an eSIM a try.

I’ve checked mine (green phone button → settings → Supplementary services) and mine’s like your wife’s. On Show your caller ID mine also states Network default - when clicked on I see that option, plus Never and Always.

I think the fact neither showing your current (or any number) under the about phone could be where this issue starts, BUT that doesn’t explain why your SIM works in your wife’s phone.

I’ll do some more thinking and have a look around the www.

Just a thought…

SettingsAbout phoneSoftware information → look for Service providers software version. Does yours show something like:

SAOMC_SM-<your model>_OXM_XEU_<2 numbers>_<4 numbers> XEU/XEU,XEF/DRE

(XEU means UK and appears to also indicate unbranded according to some sites)

(XEF = France)

(DRE = Austria)

(if you see BTU this means the phone was direct from Samsung)

If you see something else google ‘samsung xxx’ (without the ‘ and x being the letters you have)

Hi @waynejohnson

I did send another reply 13 hours ago, but the Gainsight (they power these forums) system flagged the (yet another🤐) reply for review. If you get chance maybe look at the service providers software version to see if we can spot anything with that.

Oh 😔

I think we’ve found the issue - VOD does mean UK, which indicates it should be okay

But it also means Vodafone

And from reading around here and there I’d have to say yours probably isn’t going to work on iD. I’ve been busy away from these forums (having been helping some friends and the word has now got out) and I’m also finding that for those that unlocked their phones with a PUK, the service providers software version won’t change, this does some obvious when you think about it.

I would have hoped (although looking deeper it ain’t going to happen) that Three (iD piggyback on the Three network) would have instigated their own ‘over the SIM’ service providers software update to rewrite the original suppliers software. But even if they could I doubt the data laws would permit one overwriting another - IDK

2 options:

  1. wait for input from a staffer on here
  2. look at reflashing* your phone to an unlocked version whereby an iD SIM should work.

(option 3)

  1. see if you can get out of your contract (if you’re within your cooling off period) and probably jump to a network that uses the Vodafone infrastructure as this should future proof yourself when they also knock off their 3G.

*with your own research this is doable, though you’d have to weigh up the pros and cons - you can brick (← ruin) the phone if you get things wrong.

What does your other half’s say?

(I’m guessing hers might be different as your SIM works in hers)

Hi @waynejohnson
This definitely means that your phones software is controlled by Vodafone!
Please see the post I replied to with regards to this problem (with regards to a Samsung Galaxy phone)…..

Mine phone was the same where the software updates were controlled by Vodafone …..

Not many people know that a phones software updates (which includes the provision of VoLTE and WiFi Calling) are controlled by the networks the phone was originally sold by. In this case the software updates are controlled by Vodafone and unless you are connected to their network you will not get the relevant updates to enable VoLTE (LTE) on your phone.
If you don’t have a SG phone (which the attached post details show how to update to unbranded software) then do an internet search to see ‘how’ to do this for your make/model.
Many people are finding the same problem since the 3G turn off and yet all of the major networks don’t ever mention that this may be the problem!

If I can help further then please let me know! x
