Your ultimate guide to streaming sport this summer!Blog
Sports fans are in for a treat this summer. It’s jam-packed with huge tournaments, races and more – and to celebrate, we're giving you the chance to win a HISENSE 55E6NTUK 55" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV! If you don’t want to miss a second of the non-stop action, we’re here to help. We’ll show you how to stream all the unmissable moments live on your iPhone or Android. And we’ll explain how to get your phone plan prepped, whether you’re watching at home or cheering from the sidelines abroad. Just follow this handy guide to catch every goal, match point and chequered flag without any nasty surprises on your mobile bill, and find out how to enter our incredible giveaway. Let’s get going… First things first: Get your data plan match fit. Streaming sport can use up a big chunk of your data. Meaning it’s a good idea to check your plan before kick-off to see how much data you’ve got to play with. Watching in standard definition can use up to 1GB per hour, while high definition will triple that, gobbling up a whopping 3GB or so every 60 minutes. If the football goes to extra time and pens, it’s safe to say you’ll be using a lot. So, if you’re planning on watching every single second, now’s the perfect time to think about upgrading. With a new plan, you might even be able to get more data for your money! Watching in the UK: Wimbledon & British GP. Most sport nowadays is locked behind a paywall. You don’t need an expensive subscription here though. You can catch two of the UK’s biggest sporting events for free on your phone… Wimbledon (June 30 – July 13) – Arguably the biggest grand slam in the tennis calendar, Wimbledon is always ace. And it’ll serve up some big hitting matchups, with world number one Jannik Sinner looking to bounce back from his final defeat at the French Open. But if Carlos Alcaraz – last year’s winner – has anything to say about it, we could be in for another titanic battle for the trophy. You can stream matches from each round live on BBC iPlayer. British Grand Prix (July 4 – July 6) – Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari hasn’t exactly gone to plan so far. With zero wins, and zero finishes on the podium, Lewis has a lot to do to climb the standings. Could home advantage at Silverstone help him take the top spot? Find out and watch the race live on the All 4 app. Roaming in Europe: Tour de France & Belgian GP. Jetting off to Europe? You can use your phone just like you do at home (in certain countries) with iD Mobile’s Roam Free service . You’ll have pretty much the same amount of minutes, texts and data from your regular plan (up to a 30GB fair usage limit), all available at no extra cost. Result. Tour de France (July 5 – July 27) – The world’s most gruelling cycle race pedals onto screens at the start of July. And you can see every sprint and lightning-fast descent on Eurosport and Discovery+. We’re just glad it’s not us doing those punishing hill climbs. Belgian Grand Prix (July 25 – July 27) – More motorsport. Yes please! The F1 hops over the channel with a trip to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit – the longest track on the current race calendar. To see all 44 laps, you’ll need a Sky Sports subscription (also accessible via Sky Go), or a NOW TV pass. Cheering on the Lionesses at the Euros? If you’ve been lucky enough to bag tickets to the footie over in Switzerland, we make it easy to stay connected. The land of skiing and top choc is one of our ‘ Roam Beyond ’ destinations. What’s that then? Well, depending on how long it takes for England to be crowned champions (or get knocked out in devastating fashion), you can buy a one day, five day, or ten day data add-on. Just make sure to sort this before you start using your data over there. Otherwise, you could be in for a big ol’ bill. Women’s Euros (July 2 – July 27) – Can Sarina Wiegman’s side make it back-to-back Euros titles? With a tough looking group (France and the Netherlands are no push overs) it’s not going to be an easy one. And with a serious turnover in the squad – we miss you already, Mary Earps – the team isn’t as experienced as it once was. You’ll be able to catch each match over on BBC iPlayer and ITVX. From managing your data at home to understanding roaming in France, Belgium and Switzerland, you should now be all set to stream this epic summer of sport. Before you head off though, double check your plan (can you upgrade?) and roaming options in the iD Mobile app . Giveaway time! Got a favourite team you'll be cheering on this summer? Whether you're following the football, dreaming of a Wimbledon win, or have your eyes glued to the Tour de France, we want to know who you're supporting! Tell us who you are supporting this summer in sport in the comments below for a chance to win a HISENSE 55E6NTUK 55" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV—perfect for watching all the action in stunning detail. The winner will be picked at random, so keep an eye on your inbox or DMs for a message from us. But hurry—the competition closes on 21st July at 23:59!

Simple tricks for taking incredible concert shots on any phone.Blog
Got tickets to see your favourite band or artist? We bet you can’t wait to catch them in action and rock your friends’ social feeds with some epic shots. But gigs aren’t the easiest places to snap photos on your phone. As when the lights go down, it can make pics look blurry and blown out. So, we’ve put together this guide that’ll help you take amazing concert photos you’ll actually want to share. Plus, we’ve highlighted some of the best phones for capturing awesome live music moments — from the front row all the way to the back! Quick tips for any smartphone. No matter what phone you have, there are a few simple tricks which can make a big difference right away: Control the lights: Don’t just point and shoot. Tap your screen to focus on the artist and slide your finger down to lower the exposure. This will make sure those bright stage lights don’t turn your musical hero into a glowing blob. Avoid digital zoom: It can be tempting to zoom in when you’re nowhere near the stage. But this often makes things grainy, so it’s better to just take a wide shot that you can crop later. Got a phone with a proper optical telephoto lens? It should keep things looking sharp even when zoomed in. Use burst mode: If your phone has a burst mode, turn it on and hold down the camera button to take lots of pics in quick succession. It’s great for capturing unexpected, high-energy moments and gives you more choice to find that one perfect shot. Capture the atmosphere: It’s cool getting close-ups of the artist you’re seeing. But try to take photos that capture the energy of the concert too. Have the crowd in the foreground and get some of the stage setup in there. Keep your phone stable: To stop stage lights from looking streaky and ruining your good work, you’ll want to minimise camera shake as much as possible. That’s why you should use both hands when taking your shots, even if they’re portrait pics. Clean your phone’s lens: This is an obvious one. But pocket lint and greasy fingerprints (gigs get pretty sweaty, after all) can add a murky filter you definitely don’t want. Just give the lens a quick wipe on your t-shirt or hoodie before you start shooting. Upgrade your view: the best phones for concerts. Many of today’s smartphones have pro-grade cameras. They’re literally like having a DSLR that fits in your pocket. So, if you’re a serious gig-goer with an old, sub-par phone — you should think about upgrading to something that’ll make your shots shine. Here are a few of our faves: iPhone 16 Pro: Apple’s latest and greatest phone has a 5x optical zoom telephoto lens, which lets you get closer to the action without losing detail. And with its Camera Control button, you can slide your finger to quickly toggle through lenses and make other on-the-fly adjustments. You’ll never miss a big moment! Google Pixel 9: The Pixel uses the power of Ai to not only keep images looking sharp, but to help you edit too. Someone’s hand in the way of an otherwise perfect shot? There’s a tool that can make it disappear like magic. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: If you usually go for seats at the back, this mighty mobile’s 100x space zoom ensures crystal-clear pics from super far away. It’s packing plenty of Ai smarts too, which boost low-light performance and reduce noise so your snaps look vibrant and crisp. The big debate: capture the moment or live in it? A sea of smartphones is a common sight at most gigs. And it can be pretty annoying when someone in front blocks your view with their device’s screen. But with the cost of gig tickets these days, it’s also understandable why you’d want to capture and relive a show you’ve paid so much to see. Here’s a look from each side: Living in the moment: It’s not often that we get a break from screens. So, for some people, gigs are an opportunity to get away from their tech and feel fully present without any distractions. Capturing the memory: On the other hand, memories fade with time. And today’s smartphones make it so easy to record a quick video of your favourite song or snap a pic you can share on Insta. Find a balance: Or, you could just take a few stunning photos (using our tips) during the first couple of songs. Then, put your phone away and enjoy the rest of the show. Rock on! We hope our guide helps you capture some really cool pics at your next gig. Who have you got tickets to see this summer? Let us know in the comments below! And if you’ve got some extra photography tips we missed, we’d love to hear about them too…

The best new features coming to your iPhone with iOS 26!Blog
Apple has just unveiled its huge new update, iOS 26! Get ready for a brand new look and some incredibly clever features that will make using your iPhone better than ever. We’ll walk you through the biggest changes, from the stunning "Liquid Glass" design to smart tools that help you block spam calls and messages. And it’s available now! So, before you whip out your iPhone to admire the iOS 26 makeover, we’ll give you a quick guide to some of our fave new features… A fresh new look & feel. Your iPhone is getting a visual makeover that makes it more personal. The new "Liquid Glass" design creates a cool, translucent effect on icons and widgets, giving your display a dynamic and modern look. Run your finger across the screen and it’ll look like you’re viewing your screen through a lens. It’s the biggest visual overhaul since iOS 7. But that’s not all! You’ll have more customisation options for the Lock Screen and Home Screen, allowing you to tailor your device to your unique style. The Camera app has also been made sleeker, letting you slide your finger to open up all the different camera modes - like panorama shots and portrait mode. Resolution can be changed with a simple tap at the top of the display. While it looks new and exciting, it’s still the familiar, easy-to-use iPhone experience you know and love. Say hello to smarter features with Apple Intelligence. Apple Intelligence brings powerful new AI features directly to your iPhone, making everyday tasks easier and more intuitive. One of the standout features is "Live Translation" in Messages and Phone calls. This is perfect for holidays and connecting with people overseas. And the best part? It’s all done on-device, which means your privacy is protected. Another smart addition is "Visual Intelligence," which lets you search for things you see on your screen. Whether it’s a landmark, a product or a piece of art, your iPhone can now help you find more information with just a tap. The Photos app is better than ever. After feedback on the iOS 18 layout, Apple has listened and redesigned the Photos app in iOS 26 to be much more user-friendly. The app now features clear, separate tabs for "Library" and "Collections," making it simple to find your albums and memories. This redesign is a direct response to user feedback, aimed to fix the parts in the last update that some people found confusing. Managing, editing and sharing your precious pics with friends and family has never been easier. No more nuisance calls and texts Get powerful new tools to stop spam and unwanted messages before they bother you. The "Call Screening" feature can find out who’s calling and why before you answer, helping you avoid those annoying telemarketers. Additionally, a new "Messages from unknown senders" folder keeps potential spam out of your main conversation list, ensuring your inbox stays clean and organised. One more thing... iOS 26 is a huge update that brings a beautiful new design, smarter AI tools, an improved Photos app and powerful spam-blocking features to your iPhone. And we’ve only just scratched the surface. Dive deeper and you’ll find an overhaul to CarPlay, Apple Music, Apps and Wallet too. But that’s enough from us for now, what do you think? Which feature are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments below!

Lost the remote again? Your smartphone can save the day!Blog
So, you’re settled on the couch after a long day, ready to binge your favourite show or dive into a gaming session. Then you discover the shocking news - the remote is missing! Or worse, your controller dies mid-match. It’s a small frustration, but so annoying. What if you could save things by using something that’s already right in your hand? Like… your smartphone. Your smartphone - yes, the same one you use to scroll social media and send texts - can double as a powerful controller. From gaming to streaming to smart home management, your phone might be the only remote you’ll ever need. Here’s how easy it is to make the most of it. Level up your gaming: use your phone as a controller. Gaming is more mobile than ever. If you’ve ever dreamed of playing your PS5 or Xbox games from different rooms in your home (or even while traveling) your phone makes it possible. There’s no need to hog the family TV or be tied to the living room anymore. For PlayStation players. Got a PS4 or PS5? The PS Remote Play app is a game-changer (no pun intended) that lets you stream your console games straight to your phone over Wi-Fi. Once the app is installed, just sign in with your PlayStation Network account and you’re in. You’ll even get virtual buttons and joysticks on your screen, so you don’t need a physical controller to play. For Xbox fans. Xbox offers a similar experience through the Xbox app. With it, you can stream games from your console to your phone and even manage game downloads, view achievements, and chat with friends. It’s perfect for quick gaming sessions when the main TV is in use or when you’re away from home. For a console-like experience. On-screen controls are fine, but if you’re after something more tactile, there are awesome mobile accessories like the Razer Kishi or GameSir controllers. These devices snap onto your phone and provide physical buttons, thumbsticks, and triggers - basically turning your phone into a Nintendo Switch-like handheld. They’re perfect for longer gaming sessions or more competitive play. The only remote you’ll ever need. Your phone’s utility doesn’t stop at gaming. It can also replace a whole drawer full of remotes. TVs, streaming devices, sound systems and lots more can often be controlled right from your smartphone. Smart TVs Most modern TVs come with their own companion apps. If you’ve got a Samsung, download SmartThings. For LG TVs, grab the LG ThinQ app. These apps let you adjust the volume, change inputs, launch apps like Netflix, and even type in search bars with your phone’s keyboard (way faster than hunting and pecking with a remote). This is especially useful when your physical remote is lost, broken, or just mysteriously missing batteries (again). Streaming devices Devices like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Google Chromecast all have free apps that turn your phone into a full-featured remote. Want to pause, rewind, or search by voice? No problem. In fact, these apps often offer more intuitive navigation than the original remotes! You can even use your phone to launch apps, cast videos, or mirror your screen for presentations or family photos—turning your living room into a mini theater. Beyond entertainment: smart home control. Your smartphone doesn’t just control games and shows—it can also manage your entire smart home. If you’ve ever thought about making your living space more tech-friendly, your phone is the perfect hub to start with. Lights, thermostats and more Apps like Google Home, Apple Home, and Amazon Alexa allow you to control compatible smart lights, thermostats, cameras, doorbells, and more—all from one place. For example: Dim the lights without getting up. Adjust the thermostat without leaving the couch. Check your video doorbell when someone rings. Start the coffee maker before you get out of bed. Appliances and extras Even appliances like washing machines, refrigerators, robot vacuums, and air purifiers now have companion apps. Want to start a wash cycle from work? Or get a notification when your fridge door’s left open? You can do that. As smart home tech becomes more common, your phone becomes the ultimate command centre. You’ll be able to control dozens of devices across different rooms or even when you’re away. Final thoughts - the remote that's always with you. Your smartphone is much more than just a communication device. Whether you’re deep into gaming, browsing your favourite shows, or dimming the lights for movie night, it has your back. The best part? You already own it. No need to buy an expensive universal remote or worry about replacing dead batteries in five different controllers. So why not give it a try? Head to your app store and search for your console, smart TV brand, or smart home device. Download the companion app and start exploring all the things your phone can control. It’s easier than you think - and lots of fun too. Already using your phone as a controller? Share your favourite apps or tips in the comments! We'd love to hear how you’re making tech work smarter for you.

Happy Birthday to… us!Blog
iD Mobile is 10 years old this May! Can you believe it? A whole decade of smart features, incredible milestones, amazing customers (that’s you), and a whole lot of data under the bridge. Since launching in 2015, we’ve been on a mission to make mobile better, more flexible, more affordable, and way more customer-focused. Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or just joined the iD Mobile family, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate all the ways we’ve grown together. So grab a slice of cake (virtual or real, completely up to you), and let’s take a fun trip down memory lane The early days (2015–2017). What a month May 2015 was. iD Mobile was launched by Carphone Warehouse, with a big idea: to shake things up with a mobile service that put value, flexibility, and transparency first. We knew there was a better way to do mobile, and we were determined to prove it! Fast forward to June 2017, and we were already making waves with inclusive roaming in 50 destinations , more than any other UK network at the time, meaning no more nasty surprises when you checked your bill after a holiday. And in July that same year , we went for the treble. We combined our Data Rollover , Bill Capping , and Roaming features into one great value plan. So… your unused data didn’t go to waste, you could avoid overspending, and you could use your plan abroad. That’s the kind of smart thinking we’re all about. Growing smarter (2018–2019). As we grew, we got even savvier. In February 2018, we introduced Wi-Fi Calling , a total game-changer for anyone living in a signal black spot. Suddenly, staying connected from your kitchen, basement, or anywhere with Wi-Fi was no problem at all. The very next month, we launched the iD Community , our friendly online hub where customers can get help, share advice, and connect with each other 24/7. And where you can read articles just like this one! Then came a biggie: in June 2019, we reached 1 million subscribers! That’s a lot of smart mobile users. And every single one of you helped us get there. Speed, stars & smart features (2021–2023). Things really picked up pace over the past few years. In April 2021, we rolled out the UK’s fastest 5G , powered by our partner network, Three. That meant super-smooth streaming, lightning-fast gaming, and stress-free video calls — no more buffering, no more lag. And our customers were loving it! By February 2023, we were feeling the love with four-star ratings on both Google Reviews and Trustpilot. How to boost your mood and win big this World Laughter Day!Blog
Laughter is honestly the best medicine. After all, it’s a simple way to boost your mood and is proven to be a powerful stress reliever. Don’t just take our word for it either. An article by the British Heart Foundation explains how laughing helps release endorphins – otherwise known as feel-good hormones. Just a few minutes of mirth can increase the oxygen you take in, lower your heart rate and blood pressure, and help your muscles relax. You can’t argue with that. And now there’s even more reason to smile… To celebrate World Laughter Day (on May 4, 2025), we’re giving away a pair of Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Bluetooth Noise-Cancelling Headphones! Whether you’re giggling at your favourite podcast, chuckling over a video call, or just enjoying the peace and quiet between laughs, these headphones are perfect for turning up the joy. So, if it’s a quick grin or a full-on belly laugh you’re after, here are a few ideas that are bound to give you a giggle – and don’t forget to enter the giveaway while you’re at it! Video calling friends & family. This one’s probably the simplest on our list. But it’s arguably the best too. Catching up on a video call with friends and family can always lead to unexpected, spontaneous laughs. Especially when you’re sharing stories and humorous situations from the last few weeks that they might have missed. Grandad’s always fancied himself as a bit of a comedian. And those corny jokes of his always get a groan or two… You can always try using fun filters as well. Give yourself a funny hat. Make yourself look absolutely ancient. Change the background so you’re on the moon. The options are almost endless now. Most phones (and apps) have at least a few kooky effects you can play about with while you chat. And they’ll definitely make your convo a lot livelier and more enjoyable. So, download FaceTime or Zoom and see what they’ve got to offer. TikTok & Instagram reels. Platforms like Insta and TikTok are absolutely stuffed with funny content. From viral challenges to creative skits, there’s always something there that’ll have you howling. If you fancy it (and don’t mind embarrassing yourself a bit), you could always get involved with a few trending challenges yourself. And if your sitcom skills are on point, you can also make your own sketches and share them with the community or the group chat. Who knows, maybe you’ll go viral yourself. Need some more ideas? Dance challenges are all the rage, especially on TikTok. Pop on your favourite playlist and get your groove on. It doesn’t matter if you move like your uncle after a few drinks at a wedding either. At the end of the day, it’s all about having fun and putting a smile on your – and everyone else’s – face. Make sure to tag your mates and get them involved as well. The more people that take part, the more laughter there’ll be. YouTube & podcasts. Podcasts and YouTube videos are full of moments that’ll have you in stitches. There are countless comedy channels and stand-up routines out there that can brighten your day. And they’re not just from established comedians that you’ve seen loads on the telly. Dig a little deeper and you’ll find shows and clips from brilliant up and comers that’ll be selling out the O2 before you know it. Found a few favourites? You could create a playlist of the best funny vids you’ve found so far. Then when you need a quick pick me up, you’ve got them all in one place, ready to go. Or you could always subscribe to a few comedy pods on your go-to streaming platform. There’s absolutely loads to choose from. Queue one up for your morning commute, and it’ll make that grey Monday morning a lot less gloomy. If you’re anything like us, you’ll probably be sat there struggling to keep a straight face. Laughter’s contagious though – so it might not be the worst thing to cheer up the rest of the carriage! Remember, a laugh a day keeps the stress away. And it doesn’t cost a thing either. So, whether it’s a video call with the folks, a silly TikTok challenge, or a hilarious podcast, there’s loads of ways to bring more laughter into your life. And remember, that goes for every day of the week too. Not just World Laughter Day! Giveaway time! Got a favourite joke, podcast or video that always makes you grin? Tell us about it in the comments down below for a chance to win a pair of Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Bluetooth Noise-Cancelling Headphones! The winner will be picked at random, so keep an eye on your inbox or DMs for a message from us. But hurry – the competition closes on 16th May at 23:59!

How to nail the blurred background aesthetic with your phone.Blog
Want to take more wow-worthy photos? Whether you’re jetting off on holiday soon or you just love capturing nature at home, blurring the background of your pics adds a professional touch. It’s a simple effect that helps viewers focus on the subject. And you don’t need a fancy DSLR to achieve it either. That’s because many of today’s smartphones now have cutting-edge cameras which can easily create that “bokeh” look. There are even some clever editing apps which use the power of Ai to do it! Follow our steps below, and you’ll be well on your way to capturing stunning photos that none of your social followers will scroll past. Turn on ‘portrait’ mode. Most phones these days have some kind of ‘portrait’ camera setting. It simulates the shallow depth of field you can achieve on pro cameras, which blurs the background and brings out your subject more. Whether it’s your cute pet or a pretty flower in bloom. Here’s how to find and make the most of your phone’s portrait mode: iPhone: Open the camera app, swipe across to ‘Portrait’, and frame your subject. Your iPhone will tell you to move further away if you’re too close, and it even has different lighting filters you can play around with. Once you’re happy, just tap the big round button on your screen to take your photo. Android: It’s a similar deal if you’ve got a Samsung, Google, or any other Android phone. Head to the camera app and switch to ‘Portrait’ mode to get that cool blurred background look when you shoot. Some Android phones also offer pointers and let you adjust the intensity of the blur. Tip: No matter what kind of smartphone you’re snapping photos on, always make sure your subject is well lit and not too close to the background. Use editing tools to adjust the blur after. Background too blurry? No problem. After you’ve taken a photo using portrait mode, you can easily tweak the strength of the blur effect with your iPhone or Android’s built-in editing tools: iPhone: Open your portrait mode pic in the Photos app and tap the edit icon at the bottom to adjust the depth. Slide left to sharpen the background, or right to increase the blur. Android: Go to Google Photos (or the Gallery app on Samsung devices) and select the snap you want to adjust. Tap ‘Edit’ and look for an option called ‘Portrait Blur’, ‘Depth’, or ‘Background Effects’. Then use the slider control to change the background focus. Download a background blur app. If you want to blur the background of an existing photo that wasn’t taken using portrait mode, there are some great editing apps that can give it the blurred background treatment: Focos (iOS/Android): This app allows you to manually apply or enhance blur. It features an AI engine that calculates the depth of field for a more natural look. Picsart (iOS/Android): A popular do-it-all photo editor that includes a handy blur tool. Just select the background of your photo to defocus it and get that bokeh effect. AfterFocus (iOS): Download this app to create a DSLR-style blurred background photo by simply choosing a focus area. Tips for the best bokeh shots. We’ve taught you how to use your phone’s portrait mode and edit pics after with tools and apps. But if you really want your snaps to shine, try some of these photography tips: Step back and zoom in: Take a step back and zoom in a bit to boost the bokeh effect. It helps to compress the background, so the blur is more pronounced. Use natural light: Make the most of natural light, especially during “golden hour” (the time just after sunrise and before sunset). It’ll make your subject really pop. A simple background’s (usually) better: Shoot against a clean, uncluttered background free of busy or distracting objects if you want your subject to stand out more. But experiment, as night pics with lights behind can look incredible! Adjust exposure: If you can manually adjust your phone camera’s exposure, try underexposing a little to enhance the background (if you want the bokeh more visible). Get creative with angles: Take pics from a low angle to make your subject look extra prominent, or from a high angle to capture a unique perspective. Use the rule of thirds: This is classic composition technique. Imagine your frame’s divided by three-by-three grid lines, then place your subject at one of the intersection points and take your photo. It’s another way of making your work look more professional. Don’t over-edit: Editing tools enhance your photos nicely. But don’t get carried away, as over-editing can cause them to look fake and unnatural. It’s always best to do subtle tweaks. There you have it. You can create eye-catching blurred background photos without needing a big and expensive camera. Just use your smartphone’s portrait mode, editing tools, and a few free apps whenever inspiration strikes. Don’t forget about those extra tips too… Share your results! If our guide’s got you practicing bokeh-style photos, we’d love to see your work in the comments down below.

Simple beach hacks to keep your phone safe and sound.Blog
Heading to the beach sometime soon? If it’s a sunny day we can’t blame you! A beach day should be about fun, not fretting over your phone. But between sand, water, heat, and crowds, it’s one of the riskiest places for your phone - whether it’s an accidental drop or a sneaky theft. Luckily, we’ve got you covered. This guide share some top tips to keep your phone safe, so you can relax, take selfies, and make memories without mishaps. Use a waterproof case to keep it dry and safe. Water and electronics? They’re basically frenemies. The quickest way to ruin your beach vibes is with a soaked or sand-crusted phone. Here’s the good news. You can easily guard your device with a waterproof case or sealed pouch. Brands like Spigen and Gear4 are famous for a reason — they offer full protection from water, dust, and drops. And as a bonus, a lot of cases still let you use your touchscreen - so you can snap your beach pics without opening the pouch. Even if your phone’s got a water-resistance rating, that doesn’t mean it’s swim-proof. So try not to use your it too close to the water. Better still, take a break from your screen and simply enjoy the waves – which leads us nicely onto our next point… Secure your phone when you’re not using it. Leaving your phone on your towel or sun lounger might seem harmless… until it disappears. Thieves love an easy target, and an unattended phone is just that. At the very least, you should stash it in a zipped pocket deep inside your beach bag. Or wrap it in a t-shirt and bury it under your things. Out of sight, out of mind! Oh, and we know someone who swears by wrapping their phone in a nappy (unused, thankfully). Their theory is that a thief is unlikely to open it up and investigate what’s inside! If you’re hitting the waves or taking a long beach walk, ask a friend to keep an eye on your stuff or use a small, portable lockbox. Some beaches even offer lockers for hire, which is worth checking out. Use a PIN and enable phone tracking. Even with all the precautions in the world, stuff happens. That’s why digital security is just as important as physical protection. Always lock your phone with a PIN, fingerprint, or Face ID. It’s your first line of defence if your device ends up in the wrong hands. And don’t forget to activate Find My iPhone (for iOS) or Find My Device (for Android). These tools let you track, lock, or remotely wipe your phone if it goes missing — giving you a fighting chance to recover it, or at least protect your personal data. Pro tip: Back up your phone before heading to the beach. If the worst happens, you won’t lose your contacts, photos, or app data. Use a phone lanyard or secure strap. Keep your phone close, preferably within arm’s reach, so you can keep an eye on it without stressing. A phone lanyard or wrist strap can be a game-changer for beach days. By attaching your phone to your body, you lower the chances of dropping it in the sand or having it snatched when you're not looking. Plus, it’s super handy when you're taking beach selfies or listening to music while strolling by the waves. Look for lanyards with waterproof pouches or those that clip securely to your swimsuit, bag, or belt loop. A little extra dangle now might save you from a big disaster later! Avoid leaving your phone exposed. Sure, your phone loves attention, but it doesn’t love baking in direct sunlight or being a sand magnet. Exposing your device to heat can mess with its battery and performance, not to mention make it too hot to handle (literally). Instead of leaving it face-up on your towel, tuck it into a shaded part of your bag or wrap it in a cloth. You can even use a clean sunglasses case as a mini protective pod. Consider a cheap beach phone. If you're really worried about losing your device, consider taking an older phone or a budget backup instead. Load it with essentials like maps, music, and messaging apps, and leave your shiny flagship model at home. That way, even if disaster strikes, it's not too disastrous. Final words before you head off… A little beach prep goes a long way, and that includes looking out for your phone. From waterproof pouches to secure straps, plus smart digital defences, you can protect your tech while you soak up the sun. So go on, pack the sunscreen, grab your sunnies, and hit the sand with confidence. Your phone will stay safe, your memories will stay saved, and your beach day will stay blissfully stress-free! Over to you. Have you got any phone safety tips of your own? Is our nappy idea a winner? Feel free to share your comments below.

Our favourite free video calling apps for staying in touch with friends and family.Blog
Whether you’re at home or on the go, it’s now easier than ever to stay in touch with mates, mum and dad or your work colleagues. It’s not just regular calls or texts now either. Video calling’s given every single natter a far more personal touch. It sort of feels like they’re sat right there with you. What are the best apps for video calls though? Well, we’ve put together some of our favourites that are worth a download on your phone, tablet or laptop. Let’s dive in… WhatsApp. You’ve almost definitely heard of WhatsApp. But if not, here’s a quick intro. It’s one of the most popular messaging apps in the whole world. And with over 2 billion users, there’s a very good chance your family and friends are already using it. One of its biggest plus points is its end-to-end encrypted texts and calls. What does that mean though? Well, it keeps all of your chats private and secure. So, no prying eyes can see or hear what you’re talking about. And because of its simple, easy to navigate interface, almost anyone can use it. Yep, even your nan! The app also supports group video calls, making it perfect for a chinwag with multiple mates or family members. Just grab a brew, settle in on the sofa and catch up on all the latest goss. Download WhatsApp here Discord. If you’re a big gamer, you might have come across this one already. You can talk in real time with other gamers and create a party chat with your mates. It’s ideal for when you want to link up for a spot of quick questing in that epic RPG. Discord supports screen sharing too. And that’s super handy, especially when you’re struggling on a section of a game and need a bit of help from one of your squad. They’ll be able to give you a few pointers. And you’ll finally be able to get past that tricky boss battle. Download Discord here Facebook Messenger. While Facebook might not be as popular with the young’uns as it once was, Messenger is still going steady. It’s built right into Facebook, so if you’ve already got an account, you’ll be good to go from the start. No admin required here. Oh, and because all of your mates and family are already on your friends list, it’s quick and easy to connect. Like most of the others on our list, it caters to one-on-one and group video calls. But it also comes with some pretty fun features like filters and effects. So, if you’re after a good laugh, why not give yourself a funny hat, or make yourself look absolutely ancient. It’s almost guaranteed to lighten the mood. Download Messenger here Zoom. Zoom saw a massive surge in popularity during the Covid pandemic. And with Skype soon shutting down for good, it’s now the top dog when it comes to video calls – especially in a work setting. It offers high-quality video and audio, and it can easily handle huge group calls. So, it’s just as good for big business meetings or a family reunion. When you’re working from home, or have family spread out all over the globe, it’s a great shout. The app also comes with screen sharing (which is good for remote collabs), virtual backgrounds (for a bit of extra fun) and the ability to record calls. And that’s seriously useful for saving memories or remembering some vital job info. Plus, you won’t have to take loads of notes either. Result! Download Zoom here Google Meet. Now one for the Android users. Google Meet was designed to be as simple as possible. And if you’re a big user of Google’s other apps, it’s integrated with most of them too, making everything you do nice and easy. Good video and audio quality is pretty much a given with most of our apps here. And Meet is no different. Where it is different though, is in its nifty Knock Knock feature. When someone rings you, you’ll be able to see a video preview of them, letting you spot quickly who’s calling. Don’t fancy chatting right now? You don’t have to answer. But you might just see their sad face! FaceTime. FaceTime is Apple’s own video calling app. And sorry Android fans, this one’s exclusive to Apple devices. You won’t have to spend ages scrabbling around in the App Store trying to find it though. When you get an iPhone, iPad or a MacBook etc, it’ll be downloaded for you already. Just look for the white camera logo on a green background to fire it up. It’s really that straightforward. Got a favourite video calling app we haven’t mentioned? Tell us all about it in the comments down below!

The festival phone guide you didn’t know you needed.Blog
It’s nearly festival season. And while they’re loads of fun, they can also be super chaotic, especially if you’re not prepared. So, we’ve put together some top phone tips and tools to help you get the best from the fest. Must-have phone accessories for festivals. Portable power bank. Festivals aren’t short. You’ll probably be there from Thursday to Sunday at least. And your phone’s battery will really be put to the test. So, packing a high-capacity portable power bank (one that’s at least 10,000mAh) is key. Then, you’ll be able to keep your phone charged all weekend, letting you capture every moment and stay in touch with your mates. After all, it’s easy to lose them in a big crowd! Look for one that’s lightweight and durable. Then you can carry it around without adding too much bulk to your festival bag. Waterproof phone pouch. Muddy fields, spilled drinks and rain are all part of the festival experience. Remember, we do live in the UK. So, you’re almost definitely going to encounter all three. A waterproof phone pouch is a great way to protect your phone from the elements. These nifty little pouches are designed to keep your phone dry (and most importantly, working), even when it’s absolutely chucking it down. They’re transparent too, making it easy to send a text without taking it out and risking a soaking. Make sure to get one that fits your phone snugly and has a secure seal to stop any water from seeping in. Phone lanyard or crossbody holder. Grab a crossbody holder or a phone lanyard to keep your phone safe. Sling it across your chest or around your neck, and it’ll make it way harder for any would-be thieves to try and nick it. And if you fancy a boogie – and plan to dance the night away – there’s less chance it’ll end up in a muddy puddle. Battery life hacks. Enable Low Power Mode or Battery Saver. Turn on Low Power Mode (iPhone) or Battery Saver (Android) as soon as possible. Both will help your phone to use less power, extending the battery life. It makes a big difference when you’re staying onsite for multiple days. Turn off background app refresh, Bluetooth and push notifications. The above are all convenient features, but they’ll drain your battery quickly. Switch them off to save some juice. You can always turn them back on later when you’re leaving the festival. Download maps, tickets and setlists offline. Do this one ahead of time. It’ll save data and battery power. Plus, having your maps and tickets available offline means you can access them without needing a constant internet connection - which is spotty at best at festivals. Keep screen brightness low and use Airplane Mode. Your screen brightness is another serious battery drainer. When you’re not using your phone, slide that brightness all the way down and use Airplane Mode, especially if you don’t need to check any messages. Then you’re guaranteed to have some power left to take a few videos of your favourite artist. Bring a spare cable. Even with a portable power bank, you’ll need a cable to charge your phone. And bring a spare one too, as they’re small and easy to lose. It’ll come in handy if one of your friends ends up in a similar situation as well. Emergency contact prep. Set up emergency contacts. There’s a good chance you might lose your phone. So, set up some emergency contacts on your lock screen, with a short message to go along with them. Anyone who finds your phone can then easily text or call your contact(s) and return your phone to you. Panic over. Save group numbers as favourites. It’s worth saving your group’s numbers as favourites for quick calling or texting. Use them when you get split up, and you’ll be reunited in no time. Agree on a central meeting point. Ahead of the big headline set, agree on a specific meeting point for your group and write it down somewhere – just in case you and your pals get separated. This might be a specific stage, a burger van, or a landmark that’s easy to spot from most parts of the festival. Then, if you do lose each other in the mosh pit, it’ll be easy to link up after. What3Words (W3W). Festival sites can be pretty huge, especially if you’re at one like Glastonbury or Reading. So, before you head off, make sure you download the What3Words app. It divides the entire world into 3x3m squares, each with a unique three-word code. This makes it simple to share your precise location with mates when you’re lost among a sprawling sea of tents. And speaking of tents… Once you’ve pitched your tent, take a quick screenshot of its W3W address. That way, you can always find your way back, even if your phone’s battery dies. Share the screenshot in the group chat too - it’ll make organising meetups an absolute breeze. Got any festival tips or tricks we haven’t mentioned? Tell us about them in the comments down below.

Old vs. new tech: the evolution of technology.Blog
Technology has transformed how we live, work, and play. In just the blink of an eye, we’ve gone from huge mainframe computers that took up entire rooms to do-it-all smartphones that fit in our pockets! The evolution of technology, especially in the last 100 years or so, has been nothing short of incredible. And in this article, we’re going to explore the transition from old to new tech in areas like communication, entertainment, transportation, and more. Highlighting how these advancements have changed our lives. We’ll also give you a heads up on some cool, cutting-edge tech coming soon. Where we’re going, we don’t need roads… Communication: from landlines to smartphones. In the past, landline phones were our primary means of staying in touch. Fast forward to today, and we have portable smartphones that offer a world of possibilities at our fingertips. But how did we get this far? Invention of the telephone: 1876 — The first telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell in the late 19th century. While revolutionary in their time, landline phones (that lasted through most of the 20th century) were wall-mounted and limited in reach. A car phone debuts in Chicago: 1946 — Motorola introduced the first car phone (also known as the "radiotelephone") with limited service in Chicago, connecting vehicles to landlines using radio technology. The world’s first mobile phone: 1983 — Motorola also launched the first ever consumer mobile phone, the DynaTAC 8000X, in 1983. Although bulky, this early “brick phone” represented a significant leap forward in letting people communicate on the go. SMS, cameras, and ringtones: ‘90s and early ‘00s — The next generation of mobiles allowed for text messaging, with brands like Nokia and Siemens introducing colour displays and even games. We later saw even bigger breakthroughs with built-in cameras, predictive text, personalised ringtones, and picture messaging becoming the norm. Emergence of smartphones: 2007 to 2011 — The introduction of touchscreens and mobile apps transformed the way we interacted with our devices, especially with the rise of social platforms like Facebook. Apple’s iPhone (launched in May 2007) set the standard with its detailed display and user-friendly interface. Modern phones that do it all: 2012 and beyond — The launch of the UK’s first 4G service in 2012 made phones essential, letting us get online everywhere. And today’s models have advanced features like 4K cameras, face recognition, video calling, super-fast 5G, contactless payment tech, and handy Ai assistants. Today’s smartphone cameras are so good, they’re even being used to shoot blockbuster movies! Computing: from mainframes to tablets. The world of computing has seen a dramatic shift from massive, room-sized mainframes to the pocket-friendly devices we now use every day. Not only making tech more accessible but revolutionising the way we store and process information. The era of mainframes: ‘50s and ‘60s — The early days of computing saw mainframes that were mostly used for heavy-duty calculations and data processing. These expensive machines needed a dedicated team for operation and maintenance, available only to governments and large corporations. Computers get personal: ‘70s and ‘80s — Compact personal computers (PCs) put mainframe power into homes and offices. While early PCs were heavy and took up a lot of desk space, they quickly became must-haves for tech enthusiasts and businesses. Portable laptops: late ‘90s and early ‘00s — Some of the first laptops emerged in the early ‘80s. But it wasn’t until the ‘90s that the “notebook” design we’re familiar with today really took off. These changed the way we worked and accessed information. Finally, we could take our computers anywhere! The rise of tablets: 2010s — Tablets became an instant hit on the tech scene with their touchscreens and lightweight designs, popularised by Apple’s iPad. They made computing more tactile, quickly becoming essential for work, education, and entertainment. Cloud computing: 2010s to present — Cloud-based computing has changed the game. No need for hefty local hardware or physical storage — everything is accessible online. It's made powerful tools affordable and easy for everyone, allowing business colleagues to collaborate on projects in real-time and access advanced software from anywhere. Entertainment: the switch from analogue to digital. Entertainment has evolved from physical media to digital formats, making it easier than ever to consume content. Instead of renting clunky VHS tapes to watch movies at home, we can now stream thousands of films and shows through our TVs at the touch of a button. We don’t even have to get off the sofa… 1950s to 1980s: This era was all about vinyl records and film reels. There was something special about placing the needle on a record and hearing that rich sound (it’s no surprise why they’ve made a comeback in recent years). While VHS tapes and analogue TVs brought movies and shows into homes. 1990s and 2000s: The digital era took off with digital TVs, offering a leap in picture quality and sound. Streaming services like Netflix and Spotify everything in the late 2000s, with music and TV becoming on-demand. Plus, content creation became accessible to all. With affordable HD cameras, smartphones, and YouTube making it easy to share your work with the world. 2010s to present: The shift from physical to digital hasn’t let up. With virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology, you’re not just watching — you’re diving headfirst into immersive new realms and experiencing entertainment like never before. Music: from iPods to streaming services. Just like in film and gaming, the way we discover and enjoy music has completely transformed over the past couple of decades. From carrying stacks of CDs to having millions of songs in your pocket — the music industry has been riding a tech wave of its own. The CD boom: 1980s and ‘90s — Compact Discs (CDs) brought crystal-clear audio and a longer shelf life than cassette tapes. Music lovers could now skip between tracks and enjoy album artwork in slick jewel cases. CD players became household essentials — and even made their way into cars and portable devices. The iPod revolution: early 2000s — Apple changed the game in 2001 with the launch of the iPod. It wasn’t the first MP3 player, but it was the one that made digital music cool and convenient. Suddenly, you could carry “1,000 songs in your pocket” and curate your own playlists without lugging around physical albums. The rise of streaming: late 2000s to 2010s — Services like Spotify (launched in 2008) and Apple Music (2015) transformed how we access music. Instead of owning songs, we started streaming them. Monthly subscriptions gave us instant access to massive libraries from anywhere with a connection — no downloads needed. Social + smart: the modern music experience — Today’s platforms don’t just play music — they learn what we like. Algorithms recommend new artists based on our tastes, and sharing playlists with friends has become a social norm. Plus, smart speakers like Amazon Echo and Google Nest let us control music with just our voice. “Hey Siri, play my chill vibes playlist.” Live shows from your sofa — And it’s not just about recorded tracks. Livestreamed concerts and virtual music events are booming, especially after 2020. Artists are finding new ways to connect with fans — no matter where they are in the world. From Walkmans to wireless earbuds, from burning mixtapes to streaming custom-curated playlists — music has never been more accessible, personal, and on-the-go. Gaming: from pixelated to immersive worlds. Gaming has come a long way from the early days of Pac-Man and Pong. Today, we have sophisticated gaming consoles, virtual reality headsets, and online services that let us challenge players from all over the world. Here’s a look at how the game has changed over the years: The earliest consoles — The first home gaming systems emerged in the 1970s, with the Atari 2600 bringing the arcade experience into living rooms. A seismic shift occurred in the ‘80s, with consoles like the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Sega Mega Drive using cartridges that gave gamers a huge library of titles to play. The PlayStation era: 1990s — Sony launched their PlayStation in 1994, which saw a change from cartridges to CDs and a leap to 3D graphics. Sega unveiled the Dreamcast at the end of the decade, which although a commercial flop, pushed boundaries with its internet connectivity. Emergence of the big three: 2000s — At the turn of the century, Sony released its versatile PlayStation 2, Nintendo modernised with the disc-based GameCube, and Microsoft made a splash with its powerful Xbox. By the late 2000s, these giants continued to dominate with their next-gen consoles that popularised online gaming. High-performance gaming: 2010s and 2020s — Digital downloads, stunning 4K graphics, and immersive virtual reality are now the name of the game. Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles lead the charge, with subscription services that let you play new titles and classic games for a monthly fee. Then you have the best-selling Nintendo Switch, with its hybrid design offering handheld, tabletop, and TV modes. What’s next for the gaming industry? Well, we know the long-awaited Switch 2 is coming in June this year! And it’s not all about consoles, with specialised gaming PCs really taking off in recent years. They allow players to customise the way they play, with new graphics cards and processors constantly pushing the boundaries. Transportation: moving from manual to autonomous cars. We’ve seen a significant shift towards sustainability when it comes to cars. From the earliest combustion engine automobiles to electric vehicles with self-driving capabilities, the future of transportation is looking very exciting! The birth of the automobile: late 19th century — Karl Benz built the first gasoline-powered car in 1886. It paved the way for Ford's Model T in 1908, which revolutionised travel by making mobility accessible to the masses. Rise of the modern car: 1950s — Post-WWII, the car industry saw rapid advancements in design, safety features, and comfort. Letting people travel farther and faster than ever before. Oil crisis and a push for efficiency: 1970s–1980s — Global fuel crises led to a shift toward more efficient vehicles. This sparked innovations in engine technology and the growth of Japanese automakers like Honda, Toyota, and Nissan. Electric and autonomous era: 2000s to present — Recently, hybrid and electric cars have surged in popularity due to a push for greener transportation. Innovative EVs run on electricity and cut out fossil fuels. Plus, self-driving systems are on the rise, which use cutting-edge sensors and Ai for smooth navigation. It's not just cars that are getting a tech makeover. Japan’s currently developing a magnetic levitation (maglev) train which uses magnetic levitation to travel at speeds of up to 310 mph. And then there's Hyperloop, a proposed high-speed transportation system that could propel passenger pods through tubes at speeds over 600 mph! As we look to the future, innovations like Ai, virtual reality, and sustainability will keep driving tech forward. We’d encourage you to embrace new advancements and stay open to the changes they bring. And by acknowledging the past, we can truly appreciate our remarkable journey of technological evolution so far. What tech are you most excited about in the future? Let us know in the comments below!

How to make running out of data a thing of the past.Blog
You’ve probably been there: You’re happily scrolling through Instagram, catching up on TikToks, maybe even watching a YouTube video or two. All of a sudden, you get that dreaded ‘data’s nearly gone’ notification. Cue the panic. The thing is, we’re using our phones for more and more these days—and that’s eating into our data faster than ever before. If you’re constantly running out of data or getting throttled, upgrading to a bigger plan could be the game-changer you didn’t know you needed. Why bigger data plans make a difference. These days, most of us are using our phones for way more than just making calls or sending texts. We’re on social media all the time, streaming our favourite music or shows, and even using our phones as hotspots for Wi-Fi. All of that uses up more data than you might think. Take social media, for example. Whether it’s checking out your friends’ Insta stories, scrolling through TikTok, or watching YouTube videos, it all adds up. It might feel like a couple of minutes here and there, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s eating through your data allowance before you even realise. And that’s before you even consider uploading your own posts or watching any live streams. Then there’s streaming. Whether you’re tuning in to Spotify for a morning playlist, catching up on your Netflix shows, or watching live sports, streaming content can burn through your data quickly. A quick 30-minute episode on Netflix? It could use up as much data as a couple of hours of social scrolling. Add a few videos here and there, and you’ll find your data allowance dwindling before you even get to the end of the month. And let’s not forget about tethering. Using your phone as a hotspot to connect your laptop, tablet, or another device is super handy when you’re out and about, but it can use a lot of data, especially if you’re doing anything data-heavy like Zoom calls or streaming on your laptop. You don’t want to be stuck tethering only to have your data run out halfway through a video call or an important project. The benefits of a bigger data plan. Upgrading to a larger data plan doesn’t just mean fewer worries about running out of data—it gives you more freedom to enjoy your phone however you like, without constantly watching the data meter. With a bigger plan, you can stream, post, scroll, and share with ease. No more worrying about missing out on that must-watch show or getting booted off your Wi-Fi hotspot when you need it most. Plus, with more data in your plan, you’ll find that your phone runs smoother, too. Less “data warning” stress means more room to enjoy everything your phone can do. Upgrade to a bigger data plan on iD Mobile. How much data do you really need? It depends on how you use your phone, of course. If you’re a social media scroller but don’t stream much or use your phone for tethering, you might get by with 5GB or 10GB of data. But if you’re always on TikTok, watching videos, or need to connect your laptop for work, you might want to consider a plan with 20GB, 50GB, or even unlimited data. Think about how often you stream videos or use your phone for work or entertainment, and make sure your data plan matches that. It’s always better to have a little extra room, so you don’t have to worry about hitting your limit halfway through the month. In a nutshell. Upgrading your mobile data plan isn’t just about having more—it’s about enjoying more of what your phone has to offer. Bigger data means more space to stream, scroll, and share without the stress of constantly running low. So if you’re finding yourself always in a panic about data running out, it might be time to level up. With the right plan, you can enjoy the freedom to use your phone however you like—whether that’s streaming music, watching shows, or tethering for work or play. Want to see how we can help? Take a look at our range of flexible data plans to find the one that’s right for you.

Running out of space? Here’s why upgrading your phone storage is worth it.Blog
It wasn’t that long ago that most of us got by on 16GB or 32GB of storage on our phones. Back then, that felt like loads, just enough for a few apps, some music, and a handful of photos. But fast-forward to today, and 64GB is the bare minimum, with most people opting for 128GB or even 256GB. Some phones now offer a whopping 512GB or 1TB of space in your pocket. But why the big jump? And do you really need all that storage? Short answer: probably more than you think. Why storage matters more than ever. These days, our phones do everything. We take loads of high-res photos and 4K videos, download whole seasons of our favourite shows, install games and apps that take up gigabytes, and keep years’ worth of WhatsApp messages, memes and voice notes. It all adds up—and fast. Run out of storage, and your phone can start slowing down. You might find yourself constantly deleting photos just to take new ones, or missing out on app updates because there’s no space. Worst of all? That dreaded “storage full” pop-up just when you’re trying to capture a special moment. The benefits of bigger storage. Upgrading your storage means less stress and more freedom. Here’s what it really gets you: More space for memories – Store thousands of photos and videos without having to worry about what to delete next. Smoother performance – Phones with more free space tend to run faster and handle multitasking better. Room for the good stuff – Whether it’s mobile games, offline playlists, or downloaded Netflix episodes, you’ll have space for all the fun stuff without compromising. Future-proofing – As apps and files get bigger, having more storage keeps your phone going strong for longer. No need to rely on the cloud – Larger capacity means you don’t always have to offload to the cloud or pay for extra storage subscriptions. Upgrade to a phone with bigger storage on iD Mobile. How much storage do you really need? It depends on how you use your phone. If you mostly stream music and back up photos to the cloud, 128GB might be plenty. But if you love taking loads of videos, playing mobile games, or keeping files on hand, 256GB or more is a smart shout. And if you’re the type who keeps everything—messages, screenshots, podcasts, and all those random downloads—it might be time to think bigger. With 512GB or even 1TB, you’ll have enough room to keep your digital life in one place. View our range of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB Storage phone on iD Mobile. In a nutshell. Storage might not be the flashiest feature on your phone, but it’s one of the most important. Upgrading to a bigger capacity doesn’t just give you more room—it gives you peace of mind, better performance, and a phone that keeps up with everything you throw at it. So, next time you’re picking out a new phone, don’t just go for the lowest option. Think about how much you use your phone day to day—and give yourself some space to enjoy it all.

What to look for in a phone camera (and which ones get it right).Blog
The dawn of digital technology transformed our day-to-day lives in countless ways—none more personal than how we capture and share memories. Mobile phone cameras have advanced at lightning speed, often outdoing traditional digital cameras. If you’re thinking of upgrading, here’s a closer look at what to consider in a phone camera—and which models currently lead the pack. What to look for in a phone camera. Today’s smartphones are built for photography. But picking the right one means knowing what really matters. The big three? Megapixels, lenses, and aperture. Megapixels: More than just a number. Megapixels are all about resolution. More pixels mean more detail—handy for cropping or printing. But don’t be fooled: the highest number doesn’t always win. A 12MP camera with a great sensor and smart image processing can beat a 200MP one that’s badly optimised. Aim for a phone that balances megapixel count with powerful software under the hood. Lenses: Covering all angles. The more lenses your phone has, the more photography styles it can handle. Wide-angle, ultra-wide, telephoto, macro—they each bring something different to the table. And it’s not just the number of lenses, but their quality, too. Glass lenses, image stabilisation, and optical zoom all make a big difference. Aperture: Let there be light. Aperture affects how much light your camera takes in. Wider apertures (smaller f-numbers like f/1.5) are great for low light and portraits with that soft, blurry background. Some phones even let you adjust aperture manually, giving you more creative control over how your shots look. AI Features: Your Built-In Photo Assistant It’s not just about the camera specs—AI now does a lot of the heavy lifting. From recognising scenes and adjusting settings to removing photo-bombers and improving low-light shots, smart features help you get great results with minimal effort. When picking a phone, look out for clever tools like object erasers, enhanced zoom, and AI video editing—they can make a big difference to your photos and videos. A look at the best camera phones in 2025. Now, let’s break down three of the top contenders this year—not just for their powerful camera hardware, but also the AI smarts that take your photos and videos to the next level. iPhone 16 Pro: Premium Performance and Apple’s New AI Tricks. Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro brings that signature balance of sleek design and powerhouse performance. On the hardware front, you’ve got a 48MP main camera, backed up by a 48MP ultra-wide and 12MP 5x telephoto lens. This combo is brilliant for just about any scenario—portraits, group shots, night scenes, you name it. But what really sets the iPhone 16 Pro apart this year is its dive into AI-driven photography. For the first time, iPhones come with a Magic Eraser-style tool, letting you remove unwanted objects from your photos with a tap. No more photo-bombers or bins ruining your holiday snaps. You’ll also notice upgrades to Deep Fusion and Smart HDR 5, which use machine learning to enhance colours, texture, and detail in every frame. Add to that a refined Night Mode across all cameras, and you’re looking at studio-quality results, day or night—no filter needed. Upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro on iD Mobile. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: All the Gear, All the Options. Samsung isn’t messing about with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It’s packing a serious camera setup: a massive 200MP main sensor, alongside ultra-wide, telephoto, and periscope lenses. You’ve got zoom for days—literally up to 100x—and loads of flexibility whether you’re snapping landscapes or close-ups. But it’s not just about raw specs. Samsung’s thrown in some clever AI, too. Scene Optimiser uses AI to recognise what you’re shooting—food, pets, people, sunsets—and adjusts the settings for the best result without you lifting a finger. Then there’s Nightography, which layers multiple shots together and uses AI to pull out colour and clarity in dark scenes. Single Take is still one of Samsung’s most fun features. Press the shutter once, and the phone uses AI to capture multiple photos and videos at once—then suggests the best ones. It’s perfect for parties or quick moments where you don’t want to miss the magic. Upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra on iD Mobile. Google Pixel 9 Pro XL: Smart, Simple, and Seriously Impressive. Google’s Pixel phones have always been known for top-tier photography—and the Pixel 9 Pro XL is the smartest yet. On paper, it’s got a 50MP main camera, 48MP ultra-wide with macro focus, and a 48MP 5x telephoto lens. But it’s the software where Google really shines. This phone is packed with AI wizardry. Magic Editor lets you move people or objects, tweak lighting, or even change the sky—directly in your photos. Zoom Enhance sharpens detail when you’re zoomed in, and Add Me cleverly inserts the person taking the photo into group shots (so no one’s left out!). Video gets an upgrade too. Video Boost sends your footage to the cloud for advanced AI processing—lighting, colour, stabilisation, and even 4K upscaling to 8K are all sorted for you. You can even extract sharp stills from your video—handy for those blink-and-you-miss-it moments. Upgrade to the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL on iD Mobile. So, which one’s for you? There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to phone cameras these days. Whether you’re all about creative control, effortless point-and-shoot, or AI-enhanced editing, there’s something here for everyone. Love a polished, pro feel? Go iPhone 16 Pro. Want maximum zoom and hardware power? Samsung S25 Ultra delivers. Prefer smart tools and hassle-free editing? The Pixel 9 Pro XL is your best bet. At the end of the day, your phone is more than just a camera. It’s your everyday companion, your creative tool, and your window to the world. So pick the one that suits your style—and start snapping.

8 of the coolest things AI is doing.Blog
AI isn’t just about chatbots and self-driving cars, although those things are pretty cool! It’s revolutionizing fields in ways you’d never expect. From decoding lost languages to exploring the deep sea, AI is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. So here are 8 of the most fascinating AI applications that might surprise you. Plus, we’re giving away an HP Chromebook Plus with a 12-Month Google One AI Premium Plan! Find out how to enter at the end of the article. 1. Decoding ancient languages. AI is helping linguists decipher lost languages by analysing ancient texts. Using algorithms, artificial neural networks predict missing words in ancient Greek manuscripts and Egyptian hieroglyphs. AI can even accelerate the translation of dead languages that have no modern equivalent. One example is China’s Oracle Bone Script, an ancient divination text carved into cattle bones and turtle shells! 2. Making masterpieces. AI can already transform rough sketches into detailed artwork. Tools like Google’s AutoDraw guess what you’re trying to draw and complete it. It can also learn styles of famous artists and reproducing them. But it’s an amazing collaborative tool for professional artists too. Artist Mario Klingemann worked with Google Arts and Culture’s AI Experiments project to create a series of AI-generated portraits. Meanwhile artist Sougwen Chung has programmed a robotic arm to mimic her painting style and contribute its own ideas! 3. Predicting earthquakes and natural disasters. Despite all our best efforts, we’re still hit with natural disasters. That’s why AI is being deployed to detect early seismic activity patterns that humans can’t see. Google and Harvard developed an AI system that analysed data from 131,000 earthquakes and aftershocks. And it’s not just what goes on underground. By analysing satellite images in real time, AI is also predicting wildfires based on weather and vegetation conditions. IN 2024, it helped to give warnings 10 days ahead of wildfires in Canada. 4. Recreating voices of historical figures. AI models are analysing old recordings and reconstructing realistic speech. Projects like “AI Lincoln” allow historical figures to “speak” using AI-generated voices. And AI-powered voice cloning poignantly recreates passages of Anne Frank’s diary. When used sensitively, this could prove to be an incredible educational tool. 5. Bringing dreams to life. AI models are interpreting brain activity to generate images based on dreams. Some AI projects are attempting to translate dream descriptions into visual animations. And AI-assisted dream journaling apps (like Dream Interpreter AI) can suggest themes and meaning based on past dream data. 6. Discovering new drugs and cures. Lab work is vital, but done manually by technicians it can also be a gruelling process. AI can scan millions of molecular structures to discover potential new medicines. It might be able to speed up the process of finding life-saving drugs by years, and is even helping create personalised medicine tailored to an individual’s genetics. Though the technology is still new and unproven, the potential benefit to public health could be massive. 7. Design Board Games from scratch. AI creates original board games, complete with rules and mechanics. It tests playability and adjusts difficulty levels dynamically, helping balance game mechanics for fairness and fun. 8. Make Deep-Sea Discoveries. AI-powered submarines explore uncharted parts of the ocean. AI identifies new marine species by analyzing underwater footage, and maps the ocean floor faster than human researchers. AI is more than just automation—it’s pushing the boundaries of science, creativity, and human potential. These niche AI applications prove that its impact extends far beyond the tech industry. The future holds even wilder possibilities—what’s next for AI? Giveaway Time! Now that you’re thinking about the possibilities of AI, what would you love AI to help you with in your daily life? Share your answer below for a chance to win an HP Chromebook Plus with a 12-Month Google One AI Premium Plan! The winner will be picked at random, so keep an eye on your inbox or DMs for a message from us. But hurry – the competition closes on 21st April at 23:59!

The best loyalty apps that actually save you money.Blog
There’s a lot of loyalty apps around nowadays. Supermarkets, airlines and other big brands all seem to have one. And that can make it tough to work out which ones are actually worth your time. And which ones you’ll want to steer well clear of. So, to narrow things down a bit, we’ve rounded up some of our favourites that definitely deserve a download. But first, here’s a few quick points on why you should even bother with them: Earn points on everyday purchases – Lots of loyalty apps let you build up points on your regular shopping, which can then be redeemed later on for cheaper prices and handy rewards. Receive exclusive discounts – Members usually get access to unique offers that aren’t available to everyone else. You’ll be able to feel smug while everyone else pays top dollar. Unlock special offers – From time limited deals to one-of-a-kind promotions, you’ll be able to get all kinds of goodies while you’re part of a program. And with the cost-of-living crisis we’re in, every little helps. It’s free to sign up – Most won’t cost you a single penny to join. As far as we’re concerned, it’s a no-brainer! Supermarket loyalty programs. Get more from your big shop… Tesco Clubcard You’ve seen those cheaper yellow prices on the shelves in Tesco, right? That’s all to do with Clubcard – Tesco’s own loyalty program. Without one of these cards, you won’t be able to buy your food at those reduced rates. So, it’s worth getting one. And just like the rest of the programs on our list, you’ll also collect points to knock money off your next lot of groceries. Sainsbury’s Nectar Card It might only say Sainsbury’s in the title. But with a Nectar Card, you’ll collect points across the supermarket and at other retailers like Argos too. Once you’ve got enough of them, redeem them for discounts on your dinner, or exchange them for other goodies with various partner brands. It’s entirely up to you. Asda Rewards With Asda Rewards, you’ll be quids in. It lets you earn pounds to spend in-store on future purchases. Plus, there’s personalised offers on lots of different products – and these are tailored to match your shopping habits. So, you’ll always receive relevant, useful discounts. Especially on those biscuits you always love to buy… Morrisons More Card This one’s exactly what it says on the tin. A Morrisons More Card gives you, well, more, whenever you hit the aisles. By gathering More Points on anything you buy – whether it’s a few bits on the way home from work, or a full-on dinner party feast – you’ll save some money on your future shopping. Travel loyalty programs. If you love to travel, you can’t go wrong with these… Avios (British Airways) Collect points for flights, hotel stays and upgrades through British Airways and their partner brands. Your Child’s First Phone: How to Pick One They’ll Love (and You’ll Trust)Blog
Getting your child their first phone is a big deal. It’s a step toward their independence - and it also means you’ll want to keep their digital world safe. This guide walks you through the best first phones for kids, how to set them up for safety, and how to encourage healthy phone habits from day one. The best first phones for kids. When picking a first phone, you want something tough, easy to manage, and loaded with safety features. Here are three great choices: Samsung Galaxy A16 5G. The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is a wallet-friendly phone that can handle the occasional drop (or three). It’s built for durability, making it perfect for kids who are still getting the hang of handling devices. It also comes with Samsung’s built-in parental controls, which make it easy to do things like set screen times and block inappropriate content. Check out the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G deals on iD Mobile. Honor 200 Smart. The Honor 200 Smart hits the sweet spot between performance and battery life. It keeps going all day – so it’s ideal for active kids who might forget to charge it. It also includes kid-friendly software options and safety tools that let you control what apps they use and what content they see. Check out the Honor 200 Smart deals on iD Mobile. Motorola G35 The Motorola G35 is an affordable, easy-to-use phone with a clear, bright display that's great for videos and apps. It offers long battery life, solid performance, and built-in Google Family Link with screen time limits and activity tracking. Check out the Motorola G35 deals on iD Mobile. Setting up safety and security features. Once you’ve picked the perfect phone, it’s time to set it up to keep your child safe. Here’s how to do it right: Turn on parental controls. This is a must for giving your child a safe digital start. The exact method depends on the phone, but here are a few top picks: Google Family Link (Android & iOS): This free app is a lifesaver. You can manage screen time, view app activity, approve or block downloads, and even lock the phone remotely when it’s time for a break. Samsung Kids: Built into Samsung phones, this feature creates a kid-friendly world full of age-appropriate games, videos, and apps. It even lets you set limits and track usage—without extra downloads. Honor’s built-in tools: These are simple to set up and let you restrict access to content and apps that aren’t suitable for your child’s age, helping them focus on what’s safe and fun. iD Mobile app: Managing what your child can access on iD Mobile is quick and easy. Just open the iD Mobile app or log in at my.idmobile.co.uk, go to ‘Plan’, scroll to ‘Manage your iD services’, and use the toggles to enable or disable Adult Content and other services. Don’t forget to hit ‘Save’ to apply your changes. Set screen time limits. Let’s face it, kids can scroll for hours! Setting screen time limits using the phone’s built-in digital wellbeing tools helps create balance. You can allocate specific hours for schoolwork, play, and downtime, making it easier for your child to develop healthy habits from day one. Plus, it’s a great way to reduce bedtime battles and encourage good sleep routines. Block in-app purchases. Nobody wants a surprise bill because of one-too-many virtual unicorns. Disabling in-app purchases or requiring a password for all purchases keeps your wallet safe and your child frustration-free. It lets them enjoy games and apps without being tempted (or tricked) into spending money. Add some useful apps. Go beyond just fun and games. Load up the phone with apps that help your child thrive. Think educational apps that make learning exciting, messaging apps that keep them in touch with family and friends, and GPS tools so you can always check they’ve made it to school or grandma’s house. It’s all about making the phone a tool for growth and connection. Tweak those privacy settings. Before your child dives in, take a few minutes to review each app’s permissions. Turn off location sharing where it’s not needed, block access to the camera or mic if not required, and disable ad tracking where possible. These simple steps help keep your child’s personal info locked down tight. How to teach your child about online safety. Setting up the phone is just the start. Teaching your child how to use it responsibly is the real win. Here’s how to help them build lifelong digital smarts: Chat about online safety . Have open conversations about what’s OK and what’s not. Explain why they should never share personal info, accept friend requests from strangers, or click random links. Keeping things casual makes them more likely to come to you if something weird pops up. Encourage offline time . Phones are fun, but so are board games, riding bikes, and building blanket forts. Help them find joy in the real world too. Balancing screen time with offline adventures helps reduce eye strain and boosts creativity. Enable location tracking. Turning on location sharing can help ease your mind without being intrusive. Some apps even let you set alerts for when your child arrives at or leaves specific places—like school, sports practice, or a friend’s house. Have the social media talk . Before they post, snap, or share, make sure they understand the impact. Talk about kindness, digital footprints, and why thinking before posting matters. A little guidance now can prevent a lot of headaches later. Check in regularly . Stay curious, not controlling. Ask about their favourite games, who they’re chatting with, and what cool new thing they learned today. Building a foundation of trust means they’re more likely to tell you if something’s wrong. Wrapping it all up. Helping your child to get the most out of their first phone - and to stay safe - comes down to a mix of smart settings and solid conversations. Here’s your quick recap: Choose wisely. Pick a phone that’s durable, affordable, and has family-friendly features. Set controls. Enable parental settings, limit screen time, and block unexpected purchases. Download smart. Add helpful apps for school, safety, and staying connected. Protect privacy. Review permissions and turn off anything that’s not essential. Teach safety. Talk openly about digital behaviour and the risks of life online. Balance screen time. Encourage offline fun and face-to-face time. Use location tracking. Keep tabs on their whereabouts without being overbearing. Talk about social media. Help them build respectful, responsible habits. Stay involved. Keep checking in and make phone use a shared experience. Helping your child safely step into the digital world isn’t just about tech—it’s about teaching them how to be smart, kind, and responsible online. But don’t worry, you’ve got this! In fact, if you’ve got any tips of your own, please comment below and share with the community. It all helps.

Select Data Mode > Turn on Low Data Mode. On Samsung: Go to Settings > Connections > Data Usage. Turn on Data Saver. On Android: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Data Saver.
