International Podcast Day 2024!Blog
Podcasts are big business. In the early days, they were seen as pretty niche. But now, there are pods out there covering anything and everything. Football. History. Politics. Current affairs. Gaming. Comedy. Cooking. Music. Whatever you’re into, there’s almost definitely a show talking about it. And because they’re audio-based, you can pop on an episode while you drive, work, or do the washing up. All the big streaming services support them too. So, fire up Spotify or Apple Podcasts, and dive in! And now they’re so popular in fact, that they’ve even got their very own date in the calendar. This year, International Podcast day lands on September 30th. It’s a day where fans and creators come together to celebrate the sheer number of great shows out there and the talented people behind them. Whether you’ve been into pods since day one or hadn’t even heard of them until now (where have you been?), it’s a chance to get involved and find your future go-to show. Who knows, it might even inspire you to start your own… So, to mark the big day, we’ve had a quick chat with a bunch of our colleagues at iD Mobile about their favourite pods. Hopefully it’ll give you some inspo for your next great listen. Sword and Scale. Sian W is a fan of the true crime podcast Sword and Scale, a show that delves into real-life crime stories with a focus on factual and respectful storytelling. She finds true crime fascinating and appreciates how this podcast is put together, noting, “I find true crime really interesting, and this one is made respectfully and factually.” Sian also enjoys the sense of community among listeners of the show. She typically tunes in while working or doing housework, making it a regular part of her day. Off Menu. Chloe B's favorite podcast is Off Menu, a comedy show hosted by two of her favorite comedians, James Acaster and Ed Gamble. She loves how funny it is and enjoys the variety of famous guests who appear on the show. Chloe appreciates how each episode reveals a bit about the guests' personalities and backgrounds, making it even more engaging. She usually listens to podcasts on long drives, while cleaning, or when she's out walking. As she puts it, "It's the only times I really focus on what I'm listening to, and it keeps me entertained while I'm doing something boring." The High Performance Podcast. Michael D’s favorite podcast is The High Performance Podcast, where host Jake Humphrey and psychologist Damian Hughes interview top performers across various fields. He finds it both motivational and insightful, as it explores the habits and mindset behind success. Michael listens while working out, driving, or cooking, making these routine activities more productive and inspiring. SNG. Matthew T's go-to podcast is SNG, a comedy show hosted by two friends, James and Fuhad, who bring a fresh and hilarious perspective to everyday topics. Matthew first discovered them through some funny highlights on YouTube, and now he tunes in every week, often finding himself laughing out loud. He enjoys listening while working or traveling, making these times more enjoyable with the humor and chemistry between the hosts. Got a favourite pod you can’t get enough of? Tell us about it in the comments down below!

Android 15: Everything you need to know.Blog
Android 15 is here, and it’s packed with exciting new features designed to enhance your mobile experience. Whether you’re a tech enthusiast or just curious about what’s new, we’re here to break down the five biggest highlights of Android’s latest iteration. Notification cooldown. Notification cooldown is a handy new feature that helps manage the flood of alerts by reducing the volume when you receive multiple notifications from the same app. So, if you're in a busy group chat and your phone starts pinging non-stop, Android 15 will automatically lower the volume for the next notifications. Even better, you can choose to apply this setting to just your conversations or across all your apps. Partial screen recording. With Android 15, screen recording just got smarter. Now, you can opt for partial screen recording, which means you can record just one specific app instead of the entire screen. This way, you can keep everything else on your screen, like notifications and other apps, completely private and out of view. Private space. Whether it’s your health data or banking apps, Private Space adds an extra layer of protection with a second layer of authentication - using either your device password or a different PIN. When locked, your Private Space keeps these apps hidden from Recents, notifications, settings, and other apps. And if needed, you can completely wipe your Private Space, ensuring your data stays secure. PDFs. Handling PDFs on your Android phone has always been a bit of a hassle, but Android 15 is here to change that. PDFs should now load more smoothly, and you’ve got new features like support for password-protected files, annotations, form editing, and the ability to copy text. Best of all, you can now search within PDFs, making it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for. Foldable focus. Some of the top folding phones already switch your activity to the cover screen when you fold them, and now Android 15 is making that a built-in feature. If you’d rather have the cover screen lock up instead, you can choose that too. Plus, there’s better support for apps on smaller cover screens, perfect for the more compact flip phones. What’s your favourite feature in Android 15? Whether it’s a cool new functionality or a small improvement that makes a big difference, we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

What is a Bluetooth tracker?Blog
Ever got ready to leave the house for work on time, only to discover that your keys aren't by the front door? Yup, that’s probably most of us. And we know it can be infuriating hunting around for them knowing that the clock's ticking away. If you spend too much time looking for things, a Bluetooth tracker can be a total gamechanger. But what are they exactly? And how do they work? Let's find out… What is a Bluetooth tracker? Bluetooth item trackers are nifty little devices you can attach to your valuables — like a set of keys, your wallet, a bag, or a laptop — to help you find them if they ever get misplaced. This makes them a must-have if you go travelling on the reg and want to reduce the risk of losing your luggage. Or if you're just forgetful in general! How do Bluetooth trackers work? Bluetooth trackers work by connecting to your phone or tablet using, you guessed it — Bluetooth. You can then use an app to find the location of the belonging you've attached the tracker to. Most Bluetooth trackers can also make a loud sound to help you locate your missing item — handy if your wallet's hiding under the sofa. Because Bluetooth's range is limited to around 60 metres , some trackers are made just for finding stuff around the home or in your office at work. But a popular tracker like the Apple AirTag uses the Find My network — made up from millions of Apple devices all over the world. This means they can be detected almost anywhere, as long as other Apple gadgets are nearby. Who makes Bluetooth item trackers? Loads of tech brands now make Bluetooth trackers to help you keep an eye on where your valuables are. Here are some of the most well-known, which you can find at Currys: Apple AirTag: If you own an iPhone or iPad, you can easily keep track of your stuff with an AirTag and the Find My app. It'll point you in the right direction and even tell you how far away your lost item is. The battery lasts over a year and is a doddle to replace, and you won't have to worry if it gets wet thanks to an IP67 water resistance rating. Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2: Samsung's answer to the AirTag works with devices in the Galaxy family. Your tagged item shows up on a map in the SmartThings Find app so you can easily find it. And the tracker even has a Lost Mode, which will display your contact info on the phone of whoever's found your missing item — helping you get reunited even faster! Eufy SmartTrack Link: This affordable tracker works with Apple devices and Eufy's Security app, which drops alerts to tell you if you're straying too far from your tracked items. That way, you won't lose them in the first place. And if you've lost your connected phone, just double tap the tracker to make it ring — even if it's on silent mode. How do you prevent unwanted tracking? While Bluetooth tracking devices are amazing at helping you find your personal items, you might not want your location accessible to other people. But you can rest easy. Apple and Google have recently worked together on an industry standard that alerts iPhone and Android users when a device is being used to track them. Regardless of whether the tracker has been connected with an Android or iPhone mobile, users on both operating systems will get a "Found Moving With You" notification to alert them. As long as they're running on iOS 17.5 or Android 6 and up. What items do people lose the most? According to Chipolo, the five items most people in both the UK and US lose are keys, wallets, phones, TV remotes, and glasses. In fact, over 71% of Americans lose their TV remote at least once a month! So, if you’re fed up endless searching, we’d recommend grabbing some Bluetooth trackers now. You’ll thank us later! Which item do you reckon you lose most often? Let us know in the comments!

Top class phones!Blog
With the summer holidays flying by, it’s probably a good time to start thinking about the new term. And speaking of new, it might also be the perfect excuse you need to upgrade to a fresh phone. So, we’ve rounded up some class acts that’ll power you through the day – whether you’re going back to college or heading off to another part of the country to start your uni course. Or, if you’re happy with what you’ve got, there’s always our great value SIM only plans . It’s really up to you! Right with that out the way, let’s help you make a great call… Samsung Galaxy A15 5G. Got a full day of classes on the books? No worries. The Samsung Galaxy A15 5G is rocking a mega 5000 mAh battery, which’ll easily last your journey over to campus, a full day of lectures and your trip home. You won’t even need to take the charger with you. And if you need to do some last-minute cramming on your bus ride in, that 5G has you covered too. You’ll have super-fast connectivity pretty much anywhere you go. Yep, even when you’re sat on those seats on the top floor right at the back! It’s not all work and no play though. When you need to chill out after submitting that important essay, your favourite shows look ace on the 6.5” FHD+ super AMOLED display. The picture’s packed with plenty of lifelike colour and contrast. So, sit back and enjoy the view. Motorola Edge 50 Pro. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro definitely makes the grade too. Let’s say you’ve woken up late for class and forgot to put your phone on charge overnight. Edge 50 Pro to the rescue! Plug it in and that 125W TurboPower fast charger will have you back up to 100% in about 18 minutes. Woah. By the time you’ve jumped in the shower, got dressed and thrown some toast down you, you’ll be good to go. And when you’re away from home in your uni town, the 50 MP front camera is great for catching up over a video call with mum. We’re sure she’ll be pleased to hear about all that washing you need to bring back with you at Christmas… We’ll even throw in a couple of nice little extras to sweeten the deal as well. When you buy a Pay Monthly Edge 50 Pro before October 10th, 2024, you can claim a pair of Moto Buds and a Moto Tag (until stock lasts). Sounds good, right? Google Pixel 9. You can put that textbook away. Just fire up Google’s Gemini AI instead. With the handy built-in artificial intelligence on the Google Pixel 9, you haven’t got to waste time at the library flicking through book after book to find what you need. Ask it a question on any kind of topic you’re studying, and you’ll have your answers in no time – which is perfect for swotting up on something fast. It’s one smart cookie. Then there’s Circle to Search. And this is exactly what it sounds like. Just draw a circle around a piece of text or a picture on your screen with your finger, and the phone will do a search based on whatever you’ve selected. By using Google’s incredibly clever image and text recognition tech, it’ll work its magic and give you a bunch of relevant search results to dig through. So, if you need some more background on a piece of art your teacher’s talking about, it’ll get you that in no time at all. And it means you don’t have to waste time faffing about with typing your query in manually. Nice. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. Already carrying a load of stuff in your backpack? Well, you can leave the chunky notebooks at home now. With the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 , you’ve pretty much got a pad right there in your pocket. Unfold it, grab your S Pen, and start jotting your notes down right there on the screen. And you won’t lose it like all your regular pens either. Just clip it into the back of the phone when you’re done, and it’s ready for whenever you need it next. Oh, and when you’ve got about a million tabs open for that research paper (don’t worry, we’ve all been there) there won’t be any lag slowing you down. Under the hood, there’s a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, letting you multitask and swap between multiple pages and apps in a flash. Got a favourite memory from school, college, or uni? Tell us about it down below!

Prep your phone for a last-minute getaway.Blog
Planning a last-minute getaway to somewhere fabulous? We totally understand. Even though the sun has finally made an appearance (fingers crossed), you can never fully trust the British weather! And if you want to make calls, send texts, and browse the web on your phone while abroad without returning to a massive bill — you’ll need to ensure your device is ready for roaming. Fortunately, we’ve got all the tips you need to dodge those roaming charges. What is roaming? Roaming is what your mobile phone will do when it goes outside of your network provider's coverage area (i.e. when you go abroad). It'll try and look for a foreign network to connect to so you can still make and receive calls, send messages, and access the internet just like when you use your phone at home. Roaming works because loads of providers from all over the world will have agreements in place to allow customers to use each other’s networks. But many foreign networks will apply roaming charges for using their services while travelling. iD customer? We're roam free in 50 destinations! You won't have to worry about roaming charges in lots of popular holiday spots if you're an iD Mobile customer on a phone or SIM only plan. That's because we're roam free in more destinations than any other network across all plans (up to 30GB). So, you can head off to Greece, Spain, France, Italy, and many more amazing European countries using your UK monthly allowance of minutes, texts, and data. Just chat, message, browse, and stream as normal without any additional charges waiting for you when you get home. To see all iD Mobile roam free destinations and learn more, check out our Inclusive EU Roaming page. How much will I be charged for roaming outside of a roam free country? If you're an iD Mobile customer flying to a destination that's not on our roam free list — extra roaming charges will be applied. This means that it'll cost you a certain amount for making a call, sending a text, and using data to run apps or browse online. The amounts charged will depend on where you're going and who your provider is. But if you're on iD Mobile, we've made it super easy to find out how much it'll cost to call, message, and use data overseas with our International Calling & Roaming Charges page. Just choose the type of charge (roaming or calling abroad), then select the country you're heading to. And in seconds, you’ll see how much it'll cost to use your phone while travelling there. Easy! How to manage roaming charges and keep data usage low. We've got another great money-saving feature for iD Mobile customers going abroad. If you open up the iD Mobile app , you can set and adjust a Bill Cap in the Services section. This allows you to limit your monthly spend to an amount that works for you. It basically protects you against any nasty surprises, so it'd be a great idea to set one up before you leave for the airport. But when is it a good time to set up a Bill Cap? If you're travelling to a country that's not included in our free roaming destinations . If you reckon you might go over the 30GB data limit in one of our 50 free roaming destinations. If you're close to an international border, there's a chance you could be exposed to inadvertent roaming — where your phone might connect to a network from a country not in our free roaming destinations. This could result in additional charges being applied. If you're not an iD Mobile customer, or just want to keep roaming charges to a minimum, try these out: Switch off data roaming: If you're not too fussed about getting online when you're out and about on holiday, just toggle off data roaming in your phone's settings. You'll still be reachable by phone and text in emergencies. And then when you get back to your hotel, just use their Wi-Fi to catch up on everything you missed. Put your phone in Airplane Mode: This will stop you from using data, making or taking calls, and sending or receiving texts. It will still let you use Wi-Fi though. Stop specific apps from using data: Your phone should show you which apps are using data in your settings. So, just turn mobile data off for certain apps you won't need to use. Download offline apps: Google Maps can be a lifesaver when travelling somewhere new. And you can use it without needing data or Wi-Fi if you download a map of where you're going before you leave. Music and video streaming apps like Spotify, YouTube, and Netflix let you download content too. Just got back from a once-in-a-lifetime trip? Or are you heading off on holiday soon? Let us know where you’ve been or where you’re going in the comments below.

It’s clear that Samsung is pushing the boundaries of wearable tech, making it more accessible and functional than ever. Listen up! The Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro earbuds. No Samsung event would be complete without new earbuds, and this year, we got the Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro. The Buds 3 offer a great balance of sound quality and comfort, with improved battery life and better noise cancellation compared to their predecessors. They’re perfect for everyday use, whether you’re commuting, working out, or just chilling at home. The Buds 3 Pro, on the other hand, are aimed at serious music lovers and power users. They feature studio-quality sound, enhanced active noise cancellation, and a new spatial audio feature that creates an immersive listening experience. With customizable EQ settings and a secure fit, the Buds 3 Pro are designed to provide the ultimate audio experience, no matter where you are. Welcome to the fold… The latest Galaxy Unpacked event has given us plenty to be excited about. From the innovative Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 to the new Galaxy Ring, Samsung always seems to be pushing tech innovation to the next level. Our favourite feature of the entire event? It has to be the enhanced Flex Mode on the Z Fold 6. The ability to multitask on two phone displays and then turn the device into a large screen tablet is a real game-changer. You can now order the Samsung Galaxy Fold6 or Galaxy Z Flip6 on a pay monthly iD Mobile plan that gives you all the flexibility and control you need. You can roll over unused data, cap your out-of-plan charges, enjoy ultra-fast 5G, and use the iD Mobile app to keep an eye on your monthly allowances. What to do if your phone is lost or stolen?Blog
Because we rely on our phones so much, losing yours or having it stolen can feel like a mini-crisis. Suddenly, your connection to the world, your photos, messages and even financial information are all at risk. While it’s very easy to be hard on yourself when it happens, the truth is that it most of us have lost our phones at some point. According to Uswitch, more than half the UK population have had their phone lost or stolen at one time or another. And because it’s so common, it means that industry giants like Android and iPhone are here to help. Whatever type of phone you have. We’ll break down the steps of what to do if it happens. Then we’ll let you know what you can do to protect yourself in the future. Stay calm and assess the situation First things first, take a deep breath. Panicking won't help. Try to remember where you last had your phone or when you last used it. Did you leave it at a restaurant, in a taxi or was it taken from your bag? It’s easy to think the worst when all along it might be down the back of a sofa! Use built-in tracking features to find it Both iPhones and Android devices come with built-in features that can help you locate your phone if it's lost or stolen… iPhone For iPhone users, you can use the "Find My" app or log in to iCloud.com. From there, you can locate your device on a map, play a sound to help you find it if it's nearby, put it in Lost Mode to lock it and track its location, or remotely erase all your personal data if recovery seems unlikely. Android Android users can use the Find My Device feature, which is typically linked to your Google account. Just visit android.com/find on any browser, log in with your Google credentials and you can locate your device, ring it, lock it or even erase its data remotely. NB: Only wipe your phone remotely as a final step. This will erase all data and return it to its factory settings. While this is a last resort, it can provide peace of mind knowing that your personal information is safe. Let us know asap If you're unable to find your phone using tracking features, it's time to get in touch with us. That way, we can block your SIM card and stop anyone else from using it. You can either do this in online in My Account, on the iD app or over the phone. All the details are on our Lost and stolen advice page. Report the loss or theft to authorities If you believe your phone has been stolen, it's essential to report the incident to the police. They may not always be able to recover your device, but having a record of the theft can be helpful for insurance claims or legal proceedings. Change your passwords Your phone likely contains a wealth of personal information, from emails to social media accounts to banking apps. To stop unauthorised access to these accounts, change your passwords immediately. This step is crucial for protecting your privacy and financial security. Inform your contacts Let your friends, family, and colleagues know that your phone is lost or stolen. This is especially important if you suspect someone may try to use your phone to impersonate you or scam your contacts. Check for insurance coverage If you have insurance on your phone, now is the time to check your policy and see if it covers lost or stolen devices. Many policies do, but there may be specific steps you need to follow to file a claim. Future safety tips Losing your phone can be the worst, but there are things you can do now to make it less painful and make finding it easier… Back up your phone – contacts, images, apps, info etc can be backed up to the Cloud. That way you can replace your phone without losing anything. Individual apps like Whatsapp offer back ups too. So, no more “New phone, who dis?” Enable passcode or biometric authentication – this makes it much harder to get into your device and will keep it safe. For iPhone users, enable Stolen Device Protection in settings. There’s also a feature called Security Delay, which beefs up your phone’s security when your phone appears in an unfamiliar location. Add a third-party GPS tracker – while Android and iPhone already have this function built in, you’ll need another device just to find your phone. Not always convenient when you’re out and about. If you attach a Tile to your keys (for example), your phone will make a loud noise with the press of a button. This can be a gamechanger when you’ve only just realised you don’t have it. Chances are that it’s nearby. Losing your phone or having it stolen is never pleasant, but by staying calm and taking proactive steps, you can stop it from ruining your day and hopefully recover your device. Remember, while your phone may be replaceable, your personal information and peace of mind are priceless. Have you had your phone lost or stolen before? What did you do about it and what tips do you have for the rest of the Community? Share your advice below…

Why do phones need updating?Blog
One of the best things about smartphones is that manufacturers are always making them better with frequent software updates. These keep your mobile running smoothly by fixing bugs, improving features, and defending it against any nasty new viruses. In this article, we'll explain all the reasons why you should keep your phone updated. Plus, we'll show you how to check for updates on your iPhone, Android, or Samsung phone. Benefits of updating your phone. Updating your phone can feel like a bit of a chore and it's easy to keep putting it off. But there are many reasons why you should probably install that new update sooner rather than later: Better performance: Updates are usually rolled out to make your phone faster, so it feels smoother to use with less waiting around for apps to load. Stronger security: Hackers keep trying to find new ways to steal our data, but phone brands are fighting back. That's why mobile updates almost always include new security patches. Bug fixes: Some small issues can crop up on your phone over time. But smaller updates can be installed to fix any bugs and make your phone more stable. New features: Updates aren't just about boosting security and performance. They can include cool new features like AI assistants, extra emojis, shortcuts, and loads more to make your life easier. App compatibility: Some apps won't work unless your phone's running on the latest software. Keeping your phone up to date will let you keep using them. Longer battery life: Updates can sometimes include optimisations for your phone's battery, making sure it manages power a bit better and lasts longer. How to check if your phone is up to date. Most phones will give you a heads up when a software update is available, either with a home screen notification or on-screen prompts. If you've missed them or your mobile's been offline, here's how to check for the latest updates on iPhone, Android, and Samsung phones. iPhone: Open the Settings app. Scroll down and tap on 'General'. Select 'Software Update' near the top, then your phone will search for new updates. If an update is available, download and install it. Android: Load up the Settings app. Select 'System' from the list. Tap on 'Software update' and you'll see your phone's update status. Follow the steps on your screen to download new updates. Samsung: Swipe down from the top of your screen with two fingers and tap on Settings (gear icon). Scroll to the bottom and select 'Software update' (it might be 'System updates' depending on your phone model). Tap on 'Check for software/system updates' or 'Download and install' if you see the update already available on your screen. Check out this helpful article from Which , to see if the phone you own is still supported, or how long you can expect support for with a phone you're looking to buy. Tip: If an update is available and you want to install it right away, make sure your phone is connected to its charger first. Updates can take a while to install and sap lots of battery. You'll also want to check your device is connected to Wi-Fi and not using data to install any hefty updates. What happens if I don't update my phone? Not updating your phone can lead to a few issues. The biggest problem is that it'll be leave your device more vulnerable to security threats, meaning your personal data will be less safe. Your phone will also slow down as updates are introduced to keep it performing well. Think of it like a car that hasn't been serviced for a few years! And one of the most frustrating things you'll find is that certain apps and services will no longer work as they require newer versions of the operating system. Even more reason to update your phone on the reg, so it remains secure, compatible, and functional. What's the coolest feature your phone ever got in an update? Let us know in the comments below.

iD Mobile Summer of Sport!Blog
If you’re a big sports fan, you’re in for a treat this summer. There’s a bumper calendar of sports to get excited about – from the European Championships over in Germany, to the Olympics in the French capital. iD Mobile is proud to offer all customers travelling to Germany with the benefit of unlimited roaming usage of minutes, texts and data for the duration of the tournament (14th June until 14th July). So fans needn’t worry about sharing their celebrations on social media, streaming highlights on their devices, or keeping connected and safe whilst away. We’re also extending this generous offer for fans soon-to-be en route to Paris to get behind Team GB. iD will also enable customers travelling to France to benefit from unlimited roaming usage of minutes, texts and data for the duration of the Paris 2024 Olympics (25th July until 12th August). This special sporting offer is open to all customers on all plans, including pay monthly (SIM only and phone plans) and pay as you go. Now that’s mobile done right! Euro 2024. When: June 14th - July 14th Where: Germany How to watch: BBC & ITV (or online via BBC iPlayer & ITVX) Right, let’s kick off with Euro 2024. It’s another chance for England to finally win their first international tournament since the World Cup in ‘66. Southgate’s men came close to lifting the trophy on home soil back in 2021, losing out in an agonising shootout. We’re still not over that one. And like last time round, it’s not going to be easy - even if we are one of the favourites. 2018 World Cup winners France, European champs Italy and footballing powerhouses like Spain and Germany are all going to be gunning for the title. While other home nations like Scotland hope to go one better and finally get out the group stage. It’ll probably be the last hurrah for big names like Ronaldo and Modric too. Will they finish on a high, or crash out early doors? For England’s sake, we really hope it’s the latter… The Olympics. When: July 26th – August 11th Where: Paris, France How to watch: BBC, Eurosport (or online via BBC iPlayer) With the Olympics, there’s genuinely a bit of something for everyone. In all, there’ll be 32 sports for you to watch at the Paris games. And that includes everything from your more traditional athletics (long jump, javelin, the 4 x 100m relay etc), to BMX racing and sport climbing. Breaking news! We’ve also got a brand-new sport making its debut – breakdancing. 16 men and 16 women will go head-to-head in a battle format, showing off their moves one after the other. They won’t know the music they’ll be grooving to ahead of time either. So, it’s all about improvising! Don’t forget about the Paralympics either. It follows hot on the heels of the Olympics, running from August 28th – September 8th. And when you add both events together, you’re looking at nearly a month of edge of your seat competition involving the world’s best athletes. We can’t wait. Wimbledon. When: July 1st – July 14th Where: Wimbledon, London How to watch: BBC (or online via BBC iPlayer) Federer’s retired. Andy Murray isn’t a spring chicken anymore. And Nadal is slowing down a bit. So, you might think Djokovic has a clear shot at winning his 8th Wimbledon title. But don’t be surprised if there’s an upset on the cards. Carlos Alcaraz got his hands on the famous trophy for the first time in 2022. And he’s joined by a whole class of young upstarts set on taking the legends down a peg or two. Keep an eye out for Jannik Sinner, Holger Rune and Casper Ruud especially. This lot could serve up a tennis masterclass and go all the way. And with Serena Williams out the game for the last few years, it’s just as open on the women’s side of things. Our money’s on Sabalenka or Świątek. You heard it here first. The British Grand Prix . When: July 5th – July 7th Where: Silverstone, England How to watch: Sky Sports, NOW TV 52 laps of high-octane racing on a Sunday afternoon. There’s no better way to spend part of your weekend. And with the Grand Prix taking place right here in England, you can actually get yourself down to the track at Silverstone if you’re lucky enough! You’d put your house on Verstappen taking that first spot on the podium again. But Team Ferrari is right on his tail, with Leclerc and Sainz close behind in the overall season standings. On the Mercedes side of things, Hamilton hasn’t been up to his usual lofty standards, but you can’t count him out just yet. Especially not on home soil… Which huge sporting event are you looking forward to the most? Or are you jetting off to watch one right there in the stadium? Tell us all about it down below!

Don’t sweat it! Keep your phone cool.Blog
National Ice Cream Day takes place on Sunday, 21st July this year. It’s the perfect excuse to indulge in your favourite frozen treat and celebrate the sweetness of summer. And this year, we’re adding an extra layer of excitement by helping you keep another important part of your life cool - your phone. What, you want more? Okay then - as part of our celebration we’re also giving away a Ninja Creami Deluxe NC501UK ice-cream maker. So, read on for some handy tips, and don’t forget to enter our giveaway at the end. You could scoop a great prize! 10 tips and tricks to stop your phone overheating. Summertime can be tough on gadgets, especially your phone. Overheating can lead to performance issues, battery drain, and even permanent damage. So here are some simple tips to help keep your phone cool: 1. Don’t stay out too long in direct sunlight Yes, we’re starting off with an obvious one, but it’s still worth saying. Your phone is like you—it needs some shade on those scorching days. Keep your phone out of direct sunlight whenever possible. Don’t be like this guy in the photo, in other words. Stashing your phone in a bag or even putting it under a hat can make a big difference. 2. Lower your display brightness High brightness settings can heat up your phone quickly. You should adjust your screen brightness to a lower and more comfortable level, or switch to auto-brightness and let your phone adjust automatically. 3. Close any unused apps Running multiple apps in the background can overwork your phone, making it hotter. Be honest – do you really need Facebook open all day? If you regularly close apps you’re not using, you’ll be giving your phone a much-needed breather. 4. Turn off unnecessary features While you’re closing down unused apps, you should also think about turning off any features you don’t need. Things like Bluetooth and GPS can generate heat. Turn them off when not in use and your phone will run cooler. 5. Give it some space Phone cases can trap heat. If your phone starts feeling warm, consider removing the case temporarily to help it cool down faster. 6. Go into airplane mode When you don’t need to be connected, switching to airplane mode can help reduce your phone’s workload. This is especially handy if you’re just using your phone for offline activities like reading or taking photos. 7. Keep it updated Software updates often include optimisations that can help your phone run more efficiently and cool down. So, make sure your phone’s software is always right up to date. 8. Use the coolest accessories There are quite a few phone cooling accessories out there, such as phone cooling fans or pads. These can be especially useful if you’re using your phone for heavy tasks like gaming or video streaming. 9. Try to avoid quick-charging Yes it’s super-convenient, but quick-charging generates more heat. If you’re worried about overheating, use standard charging methods. Also, avoid using your phone while it charges. 10. Take a break Sometimes, the best thing you can do is to simply give your phone a rest. Power it down for a few minutes to let it cool off completely. Enter our Ninja Creami Deluxe giveaway. Now that you’re armed with tips to keep your phone cool, it’s giveaway time! As we said above, we’ve got a Ninja Creami Deluxe NC501UK up for grabs. This incredible ice cream maker can whip up your favourite frozen treats at home, from dreamy ice cream to stunning sorbets. It’s perfect for celebrating National Ice Cream Day and staying cool all through the summer. And if you want to keep on using it into the cold winter months, that’s fine by us too. The new design features a streamlined, single view with a familiar grid layout. Apple Intelligence. AI is all the rage at the moment. So, it wasn’t going to be long before a tech giant like Apple got involved. Meet Apple Intelligence – the company’s shiny new AI that’ll go toe to toe with systems from Samsung and other Android manufacturers. It’ll be the basis of a lot of their software going forward, and Apple say it’ll “put powerful generative models right at the core of your iPhone, iPad and Mac”. In other words, you can use it to make and do a load of cool stuff for you. You’ll be able to get hands on with their AI on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and any Macs or iPads rocking an M1 chip or later when it launches in Europe early next year. If you haven’t got any of those yet, it might be time for an upgrade! With that said, here are a few of the big AI-based reveals that caught our eye… Siri. How does Siri play into all this then? Well, first off, it’s not going anywhere. In fact, it’s a major part of their AI push. The built-in voice assistant will now be far more front and centre, hovering as a small beam of light around the edge of your screen. It’ll literally only be a quick tap (or ask) away. It’s had a handy upgrade too. Need to find some important info from a work email without digging through half your inbox? Check in with Siri, and they’ll be able to track it down for you. It’ll even be able to pick out pics from your camera roll that have your mate in them. Just say their name and it’ll collect all the snaps of your bestie ready for that Insta upload. It’s seriously clever stuff. If you know anything about AI, you’ll have heard of ChatGPT by now. And to give Siri some extra smarts, Apple have integrated OpenAI’s chatbot straight into their assistant. Now, Siri will work out whether itself or ChatGPT is the right tool for the job. Giving you the best possible answer depending on what you need. Genmoji and Image Playground. We’ve all been there. Those stock Apple emojis really aren’t cutting it. Especially when you need one of a dog on a skateboard. Well, now you can get exactly that. The new Genmoji tool lets you make your very own unique emoji. All you’ve got to do is type out a little bit of text, and bob’s your uncle - now you’ve got a pooch rolling down a hill. And if you need something a bit more advanced, make sure to check out Image Playground. This AI image generator can whip up a picture in an instant, just with the help of a few text prompts. You could say it’s pretty snappy… Got a favourite feature, reveal or moment from Apple WWDC24? Tell us all about it in the comments down below!

Get ready to see the light!Blog
Despite over half the UK feeling like they pay too much for their mobile package, many still live their “mobile life” blindly loyal to their existing network because…well…just because. In our new campaign, we’re on a mission to help the mobile market ‘See the Light' of ‘mobile done right’! Why do UK mobile customers need to see the light? So, what do we mean when we say that UK mobile customers need to ‘see the light’? Well, what about these stats for starters? 20% of Brits are unaware of when their contract ends. Be honest – are you? 28% of those who are aware will be sticking to their current plan without exploring other options. 53% of Brits feel like they pay too much for their current mobile package. But 18% of those won’t consider upgrading their phone or switching networks because they think it's too much hassle. And that’s where we come in! All new customers can save an average of £240 a year on phone plans vs. the major networks. You can also save around £14 a month on SIM only plans too! Switching to us takes a few simple steps, and our plans are packed with amazing features - including the UK’s fastest 5G, Roaming, and Data Rollover – all on our multi-award winning network. On top of that, we've been recognised by Uswitch, Which? and Trusted Reviews for our ‘Great Value’ plans. That's why we know you’ll love us! Do you know someone in need of enlightenment? Know someone who is paying too much for their mobile package and needs to ‘see the light’? Refer them to iD Mobile! We’ll make it worth your while by rewarding you both up to £70 cashback for every successful referral you make. Click here to spread the word. Wait - what about HeiDi the bear? You might have guessed this already, so let us break the news to you gently. HeiDi the bear won’t be part of the new ‘See the Light’ campaign. She’s leaving with our best wishes. Rumours are she’ll be forming a hard-rock band called the iDiettes’. We wouldn’t be surprised to see her at next year’s Download festival.

The Tour de France is an annual multi-stage bike race that mostly runs through the stunning French countryside. It’s the most prestigious event in the world of cycling that attracts top riders from all over the globe, lasting three weeks and featuring gruelling climbs through the Alps and Pyrenees. There are some exciting sprint finishes on the flat stages too! When is the 2024 Tour De France? The 111th edition of the Tour de France will start in Florence, Italy on the 29th of June and conclude in Nice, France on the 21st of July. This year's event will not only mark the first time the world-famous race will start in Italy, but it'll also be the first time the race won't finish in or around Paris (due to preparations for the 2024 Summer Olympics). How can I watch the Tour De France 2024? In the UK, you'll be able to watch live coverage of the 2024 Tour de France on ITV4 for free. If you want to keep up on your phone or tablet, just download the ITVX app for iOS and Android, create an account, and view the event live or on catch-up. If you've got Eurosport 1 on your TV, you'll be able to watch the 2024 Tour de France live there too. To stream their coverage on your mobile device, you'll have to get the Discovery+ app and subscribe to the £6.99 per month standard package that includes cycling and all other Eurosport programmes. What are the best cycling apps? Is all the buzz around this year's Tour de France getting you pumped for a big bike ride? Whether you've already got a thousand few miles under your belt or you're just starting out — here are some of the best bike phone apps you should try for boosting your training and finding new routes: Strava: The superb Strava app lets you precisely track your rides with GPS, analyse your performance over time, and compete with other cyclists on popular routes. There's a big community on Strava too, so you can join clubs and get tips from other enthusiasts. Komoot: Offering customisable route planning, turn-by-turn navigation, and offline maps — Komoot is a great app if you're an adventurous cyclist. It includes valuable info on trail difficulty and surface conditions too, so you’ll always know what you're pedalling into. Meaning you can use your mounted iPhone just like a full-fledged bike computer! Fitbit Charge 6: The budget-friendly Fitbit Charge 6 is great if you're a beginner. It offers built-in GPS so you can easily track your routes. Plus, its handy auto-recognition feature can detect when you're cycling so it's recording all the right data. On top of its super accurate GPS and fitness tracking, it'll top up its battery when you're out and about thanks to solar charging. Going for over three weeks on a single charge! Phishing: Don't take the bait!Blog
National Fish & Chip Day is coming up on June 7. But we’re interested in a whole other type of fishing. You’ve probably heard of phishing – cyberattacks where criminals pose as someone they’re not to steal your personal info. They’ll nick anything they can get their hands on, from passwords to your credit card number. So, if you think that text from your ‘bank’ looks a bit fishy, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully, our tips will help you to avoid being caught hook line and sinker by the fraudsters… Why does phishing exist? It’s because it’s an easy – and very effective – way for cybercriminals to steal valuable info and money. It doesn’t require much technical skill to pull off either. By creating messages that look legit and play on fear and urgency, attackers can lure victims into a digital trap. It’s low cost, with a high reward. Plus, by throwing their net wide enough, they can target thousands of people at once. Who do attackers pretend to be? They’ll use the identity of a person or company you trust. This could be a bank, a music streaming service, or even your boss at work. The aim is to make something that seems so legitimate, that you follow their instructions without questioning it. You might get an email from ‘Netflix’ telling you that your payment didn’t go through, and that you need to update your details. These messages will look pretty convincing too, using official logos and language that sounds professional. But don’t take the bait! How to spot phishing calls and texts. Phishing isn’t just limited to emails though. It can also happen through a phone call or text message. Here’s how to spot a phishing attempt: Unexpected contact – Be careful if you get a call or text completely out the blue. Especially if it’s asking for personal info or telling you to do something ASAP. Sense of urgency – Phishing tries to create a sense of panic, convincing you to act quickly. Requests for personal information – Legitimate companies and brands won’t ask for sensitive details like passwords over the phone or text. Generic greetings – Messages that use generic intros like ‘Dear Customer’ instead of your name can be a big red flag. Unusual instructions – Don’t listen if the message asks you to do something odd, like install a piece of software, or visit another website. Check the number – If the call or text comes from a number you don’t recognise, be careful. Scammers can spoof numbers to make them look authentic. How to reduce phishing attempts. While it’s hard to completely avoid being targeted, there are a few steps you can take to reduce the risk: Use email filters – Most email services have a spam filter that can catch lots of phishing emails. Make sure this is switched on and updated regularly. Educate yourself – Stay up to date on the latest phishing tactics. Knowing what to look out for can help you to stop being scammed. Turn on two-factor authentication – This adds an extra layer of security to your account. To get in, you (and the potential hacker) will need a password, plus a second bit of info – like a code that’s sent to your phone. Keep software updated – Download the latest security updates on your computer and phone. Be sceptical - Always question how legitimate any strange messages are, even if it looks like they’re from someone you trust. Verify their details before you do anything. How to report phishing. If you run into phishing, it’s important to report it. This helps the authorities to track down and stop scammers. Here’s how to file a report: Forward emails – If a phishing email lands in your inbox, forward it onto the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) at report@phishing.gov.uk. The NCSC investigate these reports and take action to block malicious sites. Report texts – For phishing texts, forward the message to 7726 (which spells SPAM). Your mobile carrier should then look into it. Contact the organisation – If the phishing attempt looks like it’s from a proper company, contact them to let them know. Most companies have special channels for reporting it (which you can usually find on their official website). Report to Action Fraud – You can report phishing to Action Fraud, the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime. Head to their website or ring them on 0300 123 2040. Tell your bank – If you’ve given out any financial info (or think you have), get in touch with your bank immediately. They can help secure your account and monitor it for any suspicious activity. Giveaway Time! We’re giving one lucky winner the chance to win a Ninja Double Stack SL400UK Air Fryer. So on a lighter note – and in tribute to National Fish and Chip Day – what’s your go-to order at your local chippy? Let us know down below, and we’ll randomly select a winner. Entries close at 23:59 on 17 June 2024. We'll announce the lucky iD Community winner of the Ninja Double Stack SL400UK Air Fryer shortly after. Mental Health Awareness Week: Keep Active for a Healthy Mind.Blog
Mental Health Awareness Week, which takes place from May 13th to May 19th each year, is a powerful reminder of how important it is to take care of our mental well-being. Whether it's happening right now or in a few months, this week is all about getting real about mental health and finding ways to put our well-being first. The goal is simple: let's create a world where we've got each other's backs and no one feels afraid to ask for help when they need it. And guess what? One of the best things we can do for our mental health is to get moving! Exercise isn't just great for our bodies; it's like a superpower for our minds too. It can help us stress less, feel less anxious or down, and give us a boost in confidence and brain power. Whether you're into a relaxing walk, some gentle yoga, or a heart-pumping workout, getting active releases those feel-good endorphins that lift our mood. Now, I know starting a fitness routine can feel overwhelming, but don't worry—just take it one step at a time. Set small, achievable goals and find activities you actually enjoy, like dancing, swimming, or exploring the great outdoors. The key is to make it fun and rewarding! But here's the best part: You don't have to do it alone. Grab a buddy, rope in your family, or join a local fitness group to stay motivated and connected. Working out together not only makes it more enjoyable but also helps us feel supported and understood. And hey, technology is on our side too! Check out these four awesome apps that can help you stay on track and turn fitness into a social experience: Headspace This app is like a personal zen master, offering guided meditation and mindfulness exercises to help you de-stress, focus better, and find your inner peace. Strava Track your workouts and join a vibrant community of fitness lovers who will cheer you on every step of the way! Fitbit This cool app and device duo keeps an eye on your activity, sleep, and more, giving you personalized tips to smash your goals. Calm With a huge library of guided meditations, soothing stories, and calming tunes, this app is like a spa day for your mind. So, this week, let's make a promise to put our mental well-being first. By staying active, supporting each other, and using the tools available to us, we can become stronger, happier versions of ourselves. Remember, it's not just about individual journeys; it's about creating a world where we build each other up and shatter the stigma around mental health. Together, we've got this!

Google’s AI-mazing Pixel 8a!Blog
Google’s new entry-level A-series Pixel phone is anything but basic. The affordable Pixel 8a is packing the exact same chip that powers the Pixel 8 Pro, bringing with it a whole load of AI smarts made to make your life easier. Let’s find out everything it can do… What are the Google Pixel 8a's coolest AI features? The Google Pixel 8a puts plenty of power in your pocket with several cutting-edge AI features: Pixel Camera with Magic Editor:The 64 MP camera already takes amazing-looking snaps, but the Magic Editor takes everything up a notch. Move objects around, change the background, and delete photobombers like they were never there! Best Take:Did someone blink at the very last second? No problem. Best Take merges similar photos into one so that everyone looks their best. Photo Unblur:You can bring blurry pics to life with the Photo Unblur sharpening function, even if they weren’t taken on a Pixel phone. This means you can tidy up your old photos too. Night Sight:Take perfect pics late into the evening and those early hours with Night Sight. It produces clear and vibrant photos even in low light, including bright starry skies with Astrophotography. Audio Magic Eraser:Don’t forget to sort out your audio too! You can reduce any distracting car and wind noises in your video and boost the sounds you actually want to hear. Circle to Search:Want to search for something fast? Just draw a circle around an image, video, or bit of text and Google AI will find it in no time. Live Translate:Use the camera to translate signs, menus, and messages in seconds. Making the Pixel 8a a perfect travel companion for adventures abroad. Call Screen:Tired of spam calls? Pixel 8a helps filter out nuisance, time-wasting calls so you only hear from the people you want to speak to. Gemini Nano:You can ask Pixel 8a to read web pages out loud for you, and even translate them. And you’ll save tons of time by writing messages with your voice too. Google Pixel 8a key specs. All that Google AI makes for one seriously clever phone. But the Pixel 8a has even more tempting features… Full HD+ OLED display:The Pixel 8a makes movies, shows, and games look incredible with its detailed 6.1” touchscreen. And with a 120Hz refresh rate, it'll keep everything running smooth. All-day battery:Pixel 8a’s Adaptive Battery lasts for more than 24 hours, so you’ll spend less time charging and more time playing. Need it to last even longer? Just turn on the Extreme Battery Saver mode to stretch it for up to three days of use! Built-in VPN by Google:This will protect you and your data when you’re online, no matter what app or web browser you're using. Durable design:Google’s new phone can handle everyday spills, slips, and dust with its IP67 protection rating. The OLED display is scratch-resistant too, with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. 7 years of updates:You won't have to think about upgrading the Pixel 8a for a while, as Google promise seven years of Feature Drops and security updates. The best is still to come! To find out even more about Google’s new device that really puts the "smart" in smartphone, check out ourGoogle Pixel 8a product page. Is it worth upgrading to the Google Pixel 8a? If you’re coming up to the end of a contract on your Google Pixel 6a, it would make a lot of sense to move to the new Pixel 8a. While the phones look similar, the Pixel 8a packs plenty of upgrades under the hood. The new phone’s rapid 120Hz refresh rate is twice as fast as the Pixel 6a’s 60Hz, making swipes and fast-paced gameplay on the Pixel 8a look a lot smoother. It also offers 8GB of RAM rather than 6GB, so everything should feel a bit sharper and more responsive. But if you love snapping photos, then getting the Pixel 8a is a no-brainer. It’s rocking a 64MP main camera that makes photos look much better than the Pixel 6a’s 12.2MP camera. And with the new AI editing tools made possible by the Pixel 8a’s Tensor G3 processor — it’s just a big improvement all-round. You’ll also be able to take photos for longer without worrying about the Pixel 8a’s battery running out. It’s way more efficient than the Pixel 6a and allows for wireless charging too! Which Google Pixel 8a feature would you love to try the most? Is it the Magic Editor that can help you create perfect photos? Or is it the Pixel 8a’s Live Translate feature that can interpret stuff on the spot? Just share your favourite in the comments below!
