Hi, the number that is attached to my iPhone for I messages is not one I recognise or I have ever used before? Can you help please

I need to change my number as scammers have tried to relieve me of £30,000 - money which I don't have by the way! Need to stop them contacting me but the live chat said I could ask for a new number if I ordered an esim - not true, this option never came up. Now what?
