What is a Wi-Fi hotspot and how do I tether to other devices?

Contents: What is hotspotting or tethering? Can you create a personal hotspot on a Pay Monthly Plan? Can you create a personal hotspot on Pay as you Go? How do I set up a personal hotspot? Find out everything you need to know about hotspotting or tethering with iD Mobile. What is hotspotting or tethering? A mobile hotspot is not tied to a physical location, so it allows you to turn your smartphone into an internet router by using your mobile data while you’re on the go. This means you can connect other devices, such as a tablet or a laptop, to your mobile and access the internet on them. Any internet usage on your mobile or the connected devices comes out of your monthly data allowance. The main difference between hotspotting and tethering is that a hotspot connects one device to another to access the internet via a Wi-Fi connection. Tethering is linking a device to a smartphone through a USB cable, with the mobile then acting as a router to access the internet on the connected device.

I don’t have the Sim card anymore that is registered with ID Mobile, I need to cancel my Sim card but I’m struggling to log on properly because they keep sending my old Sim card a text with the code on but I’m obviously not receiving it as I don’t have that anymore. is Laurie style mate, I just can’t get to the account but I don’t think you want to be paying it for the rest of my life? Anyone have any ideas? TIA xx

Buying additional SIMs for other devices

I want to buy a SIM for a 5G router I use. Ideally I want this to be on the same account as my existing phone SIM so that I can see both plans in the ID Mobile app. Can this be done? If so, how do I do it? There doesn’t seem to be a purchase extra SIM from within my account and the sales website wants to do credit checks etc, so appears to be creating an entirely new account rather than adding a SIM to an existing account.

    Sell contract mobile device

I have a pay monthly contract for 2 years that includes a pixel 8 phone. I am very unhappy with the device and wish to go back to using my old iPhone. Can I sell the pixel 8 or is there a clause in contact saying I cannot sell the device while it is still associated with the contract?

    VoLTE compatible devices

Hi All, I’ve had a headache with another provider on the Three network who say my Xperia 10iii is excluded from VoLTE compatibility, even though it is a VoLTE enabled device, and the 3g switch off therefore means I cannot use the Xperia 10iii with them. It’s a dual SIM phone, and the daft thing is I also have an ID Mobile sim in there which works fine. My question is, is the other provider being difficult, or will my phone stop working with ID as well??

Phone got stolen - Insurance company asking for Proof of Usage document confirming the make and model of the device, the first and last dates the device was used with your SIM card, along with the IMEI number and/or serial number.

My insurance company has asked me to get the Proof of Usage document from ID Mobile that confirms the make and model of the device, the first and last dates the device was used with your SIM card, along with the IMEI number and/or serial number. Can someone please assist me with this?

Ordered the wrong Pixel 9 device option (under the Double Storage offer)

I ordered the Google Pixel 9 XL Pro 128GB device option recently, believing mistakenly that it would be upgraded under the Double Storage offer to the 256GB model. I hadn’t realised at that time that the Double Storage offer only applied to choosing the 256GB device explicitly and not the 128GB device (for which the contract fees where made identical). My 128GB device has been delivered today and activated, is there any way at all now to get back to the 256GB device plan for the same contract amount?

Does Mobile Data Roaming work in Belgium on Android when it's been enabled on the device and in the account and APN is on "id"?

Voice and sms work fine. Android is up to date etc. Network connection is set to automatic and I got the welcome message: Welcome! With iD, you can roam free in 50 destinations worldwide. Use your minutes, texts and data as you would at home (fair use policy and surcharges may apply). Keep in mind that out-of-plan rates could cost up to GBP10.24 per 100MB. For more info, visit idmobile.co.uk/roaming or dial +447482227777 free from your iD phone. Enjoy your trip! I notice the ID info within the app for roaming mentions call and texts but not data. The message above does include data though and there's no Add On for International data. Hence everything suggests it should work but apps do not work and an Speedtest shows no data is received or sent.

wifi calling has stopped working on android device (S24)

I’ve had an S24 on id mobile for almost a year now. wifi calling used to work, but hasn’t for the last month or so. The device allows me to enable wifi calling, but when I switch it to flight mode and try the usual test to force it to make a wifi call it fails advising to “turn flight mode of to make this call” (this used to work fine) Have tried restarting device but hasn’t fixed it. I’ve read similar issues on here relating to iphones and updating carrier settings to resolve. However, the set up on android isn’t the same. Does anyone have a solution that has been confirmed working for android?

Why am I seeing a ‘500 error’ code when opening the iD Mobile app?

If you’re seeing a ‘500 error’ when trying to open the iD Mobile app, it means your device has failed App Check. Don’t worry – we’ve got some quick steps to help you get back up and running: What is App Check? App Check helps secure your app by ensuring you're using a genuine, untampered device and that the app comes from a trusted source. If anything seems suspicious, it may block access to protect your data. What does App Check look for? What can you do if you fail App Check and see the ‘500 error’ code? Reinstall the App from the Official Store.
